OMG that ring was on tight! After the first time getting it off, it rotates easier. Thought it was the pop up style, but it only would pop up a little bit and pulling really hard it wouldn't come off. Kept trying to twist the ring and it finally rotated off.

I have the basic, no lights and no access panel. Pushing up, triwiisting doesn’t work. Your thoughts?

I have the plastic ring and it won’t turn. I don’t want to force it and break it? Any ideas.

If the keypad has a red light that shines down on the keypad face when you press any numbers (to light the keypad numbers) then the housing is definitely the type that requires counter clockwise rotation to access the battery. There are a few of these keypads out there that do not have the red LED at the top to light the keypad. so the second check is to see if the face of the membrane (the surface upon which the numbers are printed) is indented from the from the chrome or brass housing at the 12 o'clock position. If so, the ring needs to be rotated counter clockwise to access the battery. We do make some plastic housing keypads that do not have this rotating ring. These would not have the red LED light at the 12 o'clock position. In this case push up from the bottom of the keypad in order to remove the keypad from its shoulder bolts.

@@securam Thank you. I got it opened, one of the battery wires was pinched under the ring. I pushed them up out of the way it works fine now.

What about the Electro/Mechanical version? How do you remove its battery. I got it in case an EMP destroyed the keypad.

Wish mine was like the sherlock, The positive battery connector on mine bent simply by snapping on a battery, now I have to try and solder on a new battery terminal to the digital lock

Mine has the plastic outer ring but doesn't twist off? And the back has no entry to the battery....

I can get my securam to go up and “click” but it won’t come off the safe it’s stuck?

Dustin - it is very likely you have a style similar to the TopLit. Grasp the outer ring and rotate counterclockwise about 10 degrees then pull the ring to you. Then you will see how to change the battery.
