Non-Restricted Storage Must be unloaded. Must be secured by a locking device so that it cannot be fired or must be locked into a room or container that is hard to break into. Exception: An unloaded non-restricted firearm can be stored temporarily (separate from ammunition) if it is needed for predator control. Vehicle storage: Gun must be locked in the trunk area or other similar compartment. If vehicle does not have such a compartment, the firearm must be put out of sight and the vehicle locked securely.

Another thing about trigger locks - if you have a bunch of them and they're not of the same brand, it's possible to get 2 sides that lock in to each other, that don't have any numbers/combination on either side; meaning, you've got a trigger lock on your gun that you can't get off without drilling and cutting it off. Now when I'm at the range, I always put the 2 correct sides back together as soon as I take them off then gun.

Rod, some of us aim for bare legal compliance, so trigger locks (only on my restricteds) are set up to barely meet the legal definition. Combination, easy sequence, mostly intact, so it's a couple of clicks away from being made safe and holstered (yes, I'm talking restricted - I've never put a trigger lock on a non-restricted). Our laws are already insanely draconian and if we keep going above and beyond, the law enforcement community will start to expect that of us and will push for more bending over. Those who don't bend over enough will be punished by process (legal fees). If a criminal has enough control over your gun to take possession of it, load it, and attempt to cycle the action, it being trigger-locked or cable-locked would be the least of your concerns.

I have subscribed to your channel as of right now. I did poke a bit of fun at you on the Norinco CQA review, but it was in fun . I have found that dealing with one particular company here in 'Canada' has been a lesson for others in " SERVICE", and that Chinese guns need to be cleaned just like all the others. I too, love 'em. It's not even Trudeau, yeah he's opposed to guns but he's actually a great prime minister. I'd vote conservative if they gave a shit about my disabilities. Politics in this country are a joke anyway. Majority of voters don't even research what they're voting for. Also lots of older people just vote for who they've BEEN voting for all along. The young and educated are completely misguided so they're no help. People shit on Trudeau, when he is getting Canadians home right now and giving us extra money if we need it during a crisis. What conservative government would be helping my LOW-INCOME family out during this pandemic without cutting every service to do so. Liberal means for the people, conservative is for the STATE.(Don't mean state as in US, I mean state as in government body) Only thing I don't agree with is banning assault weapons and handguns. Other than that, long live a government who actually takes care of people, rather than helping the middle-class exclusively and talking shit about rival parties.

(1) An individual may store a non-restricted firearm only if (a) it is unloaded; (b) it is (i) rendered inoperable by means of a secure locking device, (ii) rendered inoperable by the removal of the bolt or bolt-carrier, or (iii) stored in a container, receptacle or room that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into; and (c) it is not readily accessible to ammunition, unless the ammunition is stored, together with or separately from the firearm, in a container or receptacle that is kept securely locked and that is constructed so that it cannot readily be broken open or into. My understanding of safe storage for UNRESTRICTED firearms is that they need to be stored UNLOADED with a minimum of ONE lock... locked vehicle, locked house, locked room, locked locker, locked safe, trigger lock or action lock. Ammo must be stored separately unless it is locked in the same case as the gun... which can be everything mentioned above EXCEPT trigger or cable locked firearms. Am I wrong on any of that?

Yup. I lost all of my guns today and they were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed. Back story. Last November I posted a tutorial on an sks take down. I posted the video on my Facebook. My ex girlfriend called the police on me saying that my guns were unsafely stored n that I was dangerous. The police came into my house after seeing the video of my torn apart gun(was not yet reassembled. But was apparently capable of firing even with the trigger assembly removed) And they took it along with all my other guns. My other guns were all in a safe. The judge said since I had a teenager in my house who could reassemble the gun n use it for harm. That all my weapons should be destroyed. My license revoked. And I was to pay a fine. They took 9 guns. Even the ones with trigger locks. N fur what ever reason have me 8 months probation. The law is so corrupted. This costed be well over 10k.

The idea behind the bolt being removed is for multiple guns and easier storage. Remove all ammo from room. Guns with bolts go into one safe properly secured. Other guns remove the bolt put the bolt or firing pin into another safe lock that in the safe with your other guns. Now you can display your other guns on a rack as storage but they are non functional.

You can get ridiculously long cable locks. But for a over/under & side by side a trigger lock is the next best thing. That being said. I once had a mini strong-box that I stored all my keys in. For whatever reason I threw it out when I was cleaning. Frustrating yes, but it took me less then 15 minutes to unlock 7 guns with both cable and trigger locks. Your best bet is a safe. Even with that though. Unless your safe is inside Fort Knox, that safe can/will be broken in to if a person has the skill/time/determination to do so. But that stands for pretty much everyphysical item in this whole world.

Probably a stupid question, but if I have a side saddle for shells like yours there, can they be full of ammo while stored if ammo is allowed in the same case? Or loaded magazines not in the gun for that matter as well?

i don't know about 4 digit code locks, as if you are diligent it could be opened it 12hours and 30minuets were as a 4 digit 60 number dial lock would take a solid week with no brakes, assuming you can turn the dial vary fast a good dial lock has 4 digits and 100 numbers to bring it up to 1.5 months with no brakes.

I'd like to know why bull-pup centerfire firearms are legal to purchase/own and why bullpup pellet guns aren't legal to purchase. Example: FX Wildcat which is longer than 26 inches even without the stock. I would love to have one in 30cal. for when I go for walks in the bush just for protection.

Rod regarding the Non-restricted Firearms in a safe. Can the ammo be kept in the safe with the non-restricted firearm. I ask this because f I read the law it says ammo cannot be in the same room vs. Restricted where because of wording/typo one can keep loaded magazines or ammo box in the safe or locked secured box. Please let me know your thoughts as right now I keep ammo in locked Plano ammo containers in my closet and guns in the safe.

@@neverenoughadventure Nononono you should almost never use a gun in self defense in Canada. You're better off just running and praying. According to my interpretation of the law (aka DO NOT RELY ON MY COMMENT, read the law yourself), the only time you could get away with the use of a firearm in self defense (only non-restricted though) is if you reasonably (so that could vary from judge to judge since it's subjective) believe that someone is about to kill you and you have absolutely nowhere to go and absolutely nothing else you can go. Even then ya might go to jail:)

I have a restricted storage question for you. I have a S&W revolver that has a built in lock which locks out the trigger and hammer. Do I need to use a trigger lock still while it's in my safe? I use one anyway, but I don' know for certain.

Jim Dent yes, because legally you are required an external locking device, the built in lock is just a “safety” in the eyes of the law

Does ammo need to be in a different room? Or say ammo locked up in one maybe cheaper safe, guns locked in another and both in the same room. I just want to know if theres ways to store ammo without it being at another location and without a massive safe to store ammo in that you also trust to protect your firearms.

Civil Advantage I'm also curious about this. A locked soft case seems like it would be less secure than a locked hard case, but both are really just minor deterrents. I bought a Benelli MR1 that came with a really nice soft case. I have all of my guns in a gun safe at home, and ammo locked up in a separate steel cabinet, but I just wonder for transport. Regardless, I also always transport every gun with a locking device (Trigger/cable lock), but on the off chance that I might forget to put one on there...

my understanding from my pal class was you couldnt keep mags loaded... the reasoning i got was mags=part of gun part of gun loaded=gun loaded therefore mag loaded=gun loaded plus keeping the spring under tension increases wear... depending how long they stay stored loaded
@nelsonr1467

Only the constant use of a spring wears it out.
@DeadeyeLefty
@DeadeyeLefty 8 жыл бұрын
Your PAL instructor was wrong, or you misheard what he said. The definition of "loaded" is in the Act. Loaded mags are fine if out of the firearm and the firearm itself isn't "loaded" until a loaded magazine is in the firearm. And, as already mentioned, compressing a mag spring does NOT "wear it out". In most applications, a spring spends most of its life compressed. I've got a 350 in my truck with valve springs that have been under constant compression for literally decades. Do you also release your recoil spring or your gas piston return spring?

please for the love of god mention which big box store i can get a sweet case like that for 30 bucks lol on a serious note, does ammo have to be stored in a different room, or can it just be out of sight like in a drawer or somewhere not immediately available.

Different room. The whole point of it is so you can't load a firearm quickly not so someone else can't. Canada doesn't like it when you defend yourself from intruders.

You're allowed to leave a non-restricted gun without a lock in a locked room. Also, anyone know if keeping ammo for a gun in its side saddle or other cartridge holder counts as being loaded? I was recently told that it is illegal to keep ammo attached to an unloaded gun even if it is locked in a safe.

The locked room thing is true. I don't talk too much about that because it get's people into trouble. "Oh, I keep my bedroom door locked all the time...except this time. Any possible way you'd let me off this charge Judge"?? That kind of thing. Law enforcement is also aware of the storage methods I mentioned so if they're not sure about what you've done they'll recommend charges and let the crown sort it out. You don't want that....

my idea was always just putting them all in a locked closet, it is hard to break into and it is a locked room so I think I could store the ammo in there too (I don't because all the times I looked it up it was vague answers and I am not about to catch that case)

For option 1, doesnt it need to also be stored in a vault or case or locked room? For option 2 i find it strange that they'd allow the ammo in the case, because it wouldnt delay access. Did this change since video was released i wonder? For option 4 again i find it a contradiction of the rule that says you cant store ammo in the same room. Its all so confusing lol.

Nope. Just not within easy access unless it is stored with the firearm eg a locked container or safe. Page 199 of the course handbook. Also on page 93. 😁 I lock my ammo anyway. An adult can cut the box but it keeps a kid out for those who habe them and parents aren't good at teaching or discipline.

@wilfdarr
@wilfdarr 4 жыл бұрын
I think you're mixing a couple things: Firstly this only applies to NR guns (2) Paragraph (1)(b) [basically what is covered in this video] does not apply to any individual who stores a non-restricted firearm temporarily if the individual reasonably requires it for the control of predators or other animals in a place where it may be discharged in accordance with all applicable Acts of Parliament and of the legislature of a province, regulations made under such Acts, and municipal by-laws. [that means not necessarily wilderness areas, but also in a city or town where it is legal for a citizen to discharge a weapon against a predator, you do not have to lock it: 1(a) you still have to unload it and 1(c) ammo cannot be readily accessible to the firearm] (3) Paragraphs (1)(b) and (c) do not apply to an individual who stores a non-restricted firearm in a location that is in a remote wilderness area that is not subject to any visible or otherwise reasonably ascertainable use incompatible with hunting. [applies not just to predator control, but all activities associated with hunting] [1(a) still applies: it still must be stored unloaded]. [Hinges on the judge agreeing that hunting is the only reasonable use of a firearm where you are...] I'm not a liar but nor am I a lawyer, so don't quote me. My NR gun is cable locked at all times I'm not shooting it if able. I don't even have an R-Pal because between the slimy law and the slimy cops, that's trouble I can't afford.
