The nice thing I'd see with the S clearance is it's way easier to get than the TS but it still has the benefit that they can't offshore your job to a foreign country. So if you get a job with Secret, they won't be able to cheap out your job to India or somewhere like that. Sure the form is tedious as hell to fill out if your address has changed a lot but you've lived in the same place for the entire time window that helps a lot. It's surprisingly hard to figure out the exact dates you started and stopped living at various addresses, most people toss that stuff after a while.

The security clearance process takes an average of three to four months to complete but can take up to a full year to complete depending on your background. It can also take longer due to family or finances.

I am applying to a job with the NLRB and on the clearance tab says other, the position sensitivity risk is: High Risk, trust determination process: credentialing and suitability/Fitness. Since is High Risk position, can I expect the process to be somewhat similar to a clearance since the position is high risk? Thanks for any reply.

Tier 1 is lower risk and goes along with the SF85 and those can usually be completed in 7 - 10 days.

Depends on what your going for and what your doing, top secret not all the time but the department can require it.

If you transfer to another government job with same low secured clearance do you have to go through that extensive background check again ?

If it is in the same agency then probably not. But if it is for a completely different federal agency, then generally yes, you would have to go through the background check again.

During a Security Clearance investigation they could potentially look at your medical records but probably not all of them and it can depend on the situation.

Armand Curet, can you tell me if it is okay to accept multiple tentative job offers with the same agency for the same job title with the same pay grade? The only difference is the location for the positions. Both positions are in a different location. And both of them require different levels of clearances. I wanted to have a backup in case one of the background check process falls through and I don't get the final offer for one of them. Let me know if it is okay to accept multiple tentative job offers and go through background investigations for both of them.

Yes, you can absolutely accept multiple tentative jobs offers with the same agency. Interesting that the same position at the same agency have different clearance requirements based on location.
