I live within walking distance of Security Square, and yet have never been in there. I tend to just drive to Columbia or Towson. I had no idea it had such a "vintage vibe" to it. I should check it out one of these days. I keep hearing from other locals that it's one of the factors that killed Harborplace and the Galleria downtown, but I'm not seeing exactly how.

The flooring in the mall is not the original. The original flooring was a beautiful marble style flooring. Also, the original owner Mr. DeBartolo was also the owner of the San Francisco 49ers. He would fly over the mall and if he saw any trash on the mall grounds he would call and someone would clean it up immediately. The mall now has been destroyed with crime, and trash is all over the place. I worked in that mall in the early 80s at York Steak House and also was a Supervisor in the Maintenance Department for many years . I assisted in putting up all the Christmas decorations as well as other job functions. I have a lot of fond memories of Security Square Mall and met a lot of good folks there! A darn shame the surrounding neighborhood and the mall have deteriorated over the years , as it use to be a safe and clean place to visit , eat, and shop. However, not anymore.

@@JadaBlaze01 Hi JadaBlaze, I hate to bust your bubble BUT yes the flooring in the mall was white and a marble STYLE . I should know as I stripped and waxed these floors for many years on the graveyard shift. We had 50 gallon drums of ZEP wax and after stripping would put down three to four coats with a mop after each coat would dry. We would do sections at a time. A lot of back breaking hard work. Have a great day!😎

@@scottleatherman163 I been going to Security Square Mall since 1986 and have NEVER seen marble floors in the mall. The floors have always looked the same I have no idea what your talking about maybe when the mall first opened up but since I was going since 1986 I never saw marble floors

Jada, Yes you have NO idea the marble STYLE flooring was there before your time. Again, it was there when the mall was first opened way before 1986 . A beautiful floor it was. Not to sure why they would replace it ? It might have been the new owners after Mr.Debartolo sold it . I do know that a lot of folks would fall and slip on the floor especially if someone spilled a liquid substance. Maybe it started to be a liability problem for the Mall? Have a great day!😎

Also on the Hoschilds side was a large Reads drug store that later became a Rite Aid.

I was there when Security Square opened. The food court was originally a large multi screen General Cinemas theatre. Years later the mall forced them to the outside building due to stragglers hanging around inside the mall after hours. That theatre is now run by AMC. The center skylight was never there during the first ten or so years. There were 4 small booth stores in the center, Ole, a silver jewelry store, a Baskin Robbins ice cream vendor and two other shops. The center was never raised with a stair platform, the center was floor level. Towards Sears there was Harmony Hut, a Singer sewing machine store, F W Woolworths, a Spencer gifts store. On the opposite wing was Florsheim shoes, Hoschild Kohn & co and a pizza place. There was an Orange Julius hot dog stand on the J C Penney side. The Hecht/R H Macy store building was not around during that time 1970's, it was parking.

Actually, the music that is played in the mall I mute and add my own music. This would be the music that they would play in the 70s and 80s that I add in.
