On top of having the huge steadicam camera system, I was also carrying a huge backpack that holds the steadicam on my back, that alley was a bit too narrow for me to turn around in the middle of it without knocking down a whole bunch of boxes or cases.

On the building it says SED, but to ask directions ask for the Sanda building. For some reason I think SED is pronounced "Sanda" in Chinese. It's a couple blocks on the east side of about the middle of Huaqiangbei. Just opposite SED is one of the best cheap smartphone places also.

There are a few open designs that everyone, including Archos and Onda brands can use for "free". Also Archos does allow Chinese brands to use their designs, so you can't prove that Onda provided Archos or the other way around. Both are brands. You can't do much with designs anyways, the screen takes up 95% of the surface of these devices, there isn't much space to do much "alternative" with the remaining 5%, the bezel and backs and buttons can only be made in certain few ways and that's fine.

Basically, depending on the manufacturer, Archos gets a better deal on assembly if they "officially" allow that manufacturer supply Chinese brands to sell same designs in China only. Archos sells mostly in Europe and second mostly in the USA. It's kind of irellevant to suggest China-only brands are in any way rebadging. For example Hyundai, Pierre Cardin, Philips, Ferrari, and many other brands are being licensed to sell tablets/phones only in China.

Dongguan is a huge area outside Shenzhen China. It'd be like a company naming themselves Paris or New York. Companies, not even Chinese, don't do that. YF Tech is one of the factories working with Archos and have been doing for a decade or so. That's how Archos works, they get their stuff manufactured in China by small to medium sized factories, this is not a Foxconn story.

They can have the cheapest prices in the world, right there. Not just cause they sell directly at factory price, they also have some B or C quality units from the factories, those are even more discounted because they may not be perfect A quality. They also refurbish, copy with lower priced components etc.

FCC letters and photos mean nothing. It's just paperwork to get devices approved to sell in the USA. Dongguan is not a company it's a huge area with hundreds of tablet and smartphone factories around Shenzhen in China. Archos works with several of those factories and often the deal is they can "duplicate" same Archos designs under some other Chinese-only brands. You will not find Onda or whatever other brand sold in Europe/USA.

Asus is actually a taiwan brand, Lenovo & Asus are both well reputed for their PC products. can't say it for acer, that why it cost slightly cheaper for stuffs of the same specs.

China is making and selling 50 million Android tablets per month. Android tablet volume out of China is nearly as high as Chinese smartphone volume output, it's insanely high, the Android tablets daily sales number out of these Chinese suppliers have now overtaken the daily sales of Windows 7/8 and Mac Laptops/Desktops. I don't consider them duplicates, they use open source hardware designs that the Chinese Government provides them all, so they don't need to spend time on designing.

Price is in RMB, basically divide by 6.5 for USD or CAD ! They won't mention price until they know quantity you want, it is a very competitive business and they don't want the other merchants to know ! This a great window into how much consumers are being ripped off in North America with our greedy corporations pocketing thousands of percentage of profits !

Come to my blog. I have FCC letters from Dongguan and Archos telling the FCC the Chinese tablet and Archos 80 Titanium are identical and that the Dongguan came first. And Archos submitted the V812 to the FCC as a stand in for the 80 Platinum. It really doesn't matter to me if Archos didn't design them, as long as they are well-made tablets. Two posts: "Archos 80 Titanium: Just Rebadged From China" and "Archos 80 Platinum = Onda V812." If created in China, they are getting better faster.
