Semah is the musical form, the song specially written for the sacred ritual dance of Alawi-Bektashi people in Anatolia. Each region has its own semah songs and dances. Rodos (Rhodes) semahı belongs to the community which lived in Rhodes, Greece in Ottoman Empire’s time. This dance which is performed in Cem ceremony, represents the Oneness of souls, whirling together in a circle. It symbolizes the Path towards Truth, as a form of praying through movements, which got inspiration from the flock of cranes, the birds..
