Watched this video again earlier this week. I wonder if you can add chapters? LOL. I keep coming back to this for reference. The ratcheting collet part makes more sense now after changing. I also found that changing the collet was super easy. Thank goodness. Here’s a video idea for you. I used my OF 1400 for some template routing this week. I struggled with my depth of cut. I was routing out a cheese and cracker tray. For the first shallow pass I was good. But what I struggle with was two things. I want to be able to have repeatability. I’m gonna make like 8 of these cheese and cracker trays. How can I use the three turrets so that I can have three settings? One for the first pass. One for the second pass. And one for the third. It’s just not clicking for me. PLUS… I was doing a fourth pass where I used a piece of painters tape folded over as my spacer while setting the stop so that It would give me a very shallow last pass. I’d love to see a video on how to use those turrets more.

As always a great tutorial. I think we are spoilt here in Australia. The OF1400 that we purchase here has an electronic brake (model OF1400 EBQ and your one is EQ) It stops in under 2 sec. A great feature. Not sure why the models sold in the USA do not have the brake.

A common complaint with some OF 1400s is the sloppy tolerances when using the snap in guide bushing and guide bushing adapters for template routing. This is well documented on FOG. Has this been resolved in the latest revisions? I love my 1400 but routing a dog hole grid is an exercise in frustration. Even Woodpeckers has acknowledged the inaccuracies in a comment on their MFT hole-boring jig video. If template routing with guide bushings is your jam, the 1010 is far superior. Guide bushing aside, the 1400s dust collection is unbeatable and is a very well-balanced router.

In situations like at 21:43 sometimes it is helpful to attach guide rail adapter (even a half of it). It is on the same level as routers baseplate and effectively works as a base widener. Of course for super delicate surfaces it is better to use dedicated attachment, but it is not very convenient to attach (screws - OF2200 is much better here).

@AaronGeller
@AaronGeller Жыл бұрын
I don’t think so. You need to adequately support it, but the idea of a router that does it all, probably isn’t ideal. I love my OF 1400 but I do want more routers because it makes certain tasks easier. I have a Milwaukee trim router and it’s nice to have two different bits accessible at the same time

Is that dust shroud an improvement over the original? That plastic part which moves on it breaks easily. I am assuming the black plastic on yours and not on the original helps with support for the hose nozzle. Also a "lockout" on top of the machine would be nice for future iterations. I sometimes lock mine out with the front knob before doing a cut and it's not as easy as it could be.

So I’m confused ( and a newbie) about how to use the micro adjustment on the guide rail. If you line the router up against the green strip like in your demo, the micro djist doesn’t move the router as it doesn’t adjust wide enough. For the micro adjust to work, router needs to sit on the green strip? A video on this would be great as I know I’m missing something. Also, why is using both guides on both sections of the rail a no no.

It's not Christmas yet Sedge, and you're hitting me with the OF1400 now! Guess I'll keep using my PC890 with an adapter plate on my LR32 Sled with a lock up insert for the tab stop till then. I had my 3D printing guy make me a clip on -/+ that clips to the bottom of the LR32 sled, to give me the width, length points for setting up the router, like the foot does. It works really well but Santa's gonna have to work some overtime. DF500 or OF1400 decisions decisions, the clock is ticking. Love the tutorials. The other Warren from Caldwell Idaho,

Almost all my tools are Festool i have 4 routers none of which are Festool . The 1400 is a good all rounder if you can only have 1 but it isn't the best in any 1 area . I have the Mafell lo55 and lo65 which are just streets ahead of the competition. I have a Makita 18v 1/4" and a Hikoki 36v 1/2" which at time of purchase were both first to market with capable machines . Comparable machines for me would be the Festool 1010 and 2200 which are both amazing but at a similar price point to the Mafell they just dont have that solid feel of the Mafells or anywhere near the features of the lo55. Im probably £20k deep in festool so by no means a hater but routers and planers just aren't there yet
