The facies does not define an environment but rather defines a process responsible for its formation, but the association of facies defines on the other hand the environments of deposit. Thank you for your effort

HSST does not require changing eustasy even though the SHORELINE may be regressing. Falling Stage System Tract clinoforms are distinguished by their onlapping downstepping clinoforms (if I remember correctly). In THAT case you can safely say relative sea level has dropped. Please, please encourage people to think in terms of prograding and retrograding sediment and not regressions and transgressions.

I know your comment was written 6 years ago, so I must ask: In the industry, do they refer to regressions and transgressions as prograding and retrograding? Are these terms similar? I am taking a geology class and my professor is teaching regression and transgression. I just want to know if, in the "real world" versus the classroom, these terms are no longer used or are outdated etc.

Ashley Bryant GOL 106 V1. I learned that a Facias can occur in any type of rock and can have almost any type of markings as long as it has "characteristics that correspond to a particular environment," that give some sort of information about the environment that the rock formed in.
