Old Classic Car

Күн бұрын

The Midway Truck Stop was the venue for a recent old lorry meet, where various ERF, Foden, Leyland, Bedford and other old lorries gathered near Whitchurch in Shropshire, before heading off on a road run. We drove over to take a look at all these classic lorries and video'd the entrants parked up, then as they drove away in the direction of North Wales. Seeing and hearing these old trucks on a clear autumnal morning was a perfect way to spend a couple of hours.
In addition to the above trucks, there was also an impressive Mack and a wonderful old Kenworth that sounded just fantastic. A number of classic Volvo trucks also turned up - plus a Scania - and were great to see.
Many videos now on this channel relate to vintage or classic trucks, the full list of videos is on the following page:
/ oldclassiccarrj
I'll include a link to the playlist just for the lorry videos, at the end of this vid.
Thanks for watching, if you're able to support the channel by giving this vid a Like, Subscribing to the channel, and passing the link to this vid to anyone you know who might like to watch it, would be a real help, thanks.

I am, so ashamed of my country of Jamaica, where I was been born on November 25,1961, all these British lorries that I have known is all gone to the scrap yard now. Jamaican’s does not take care of there vehicles at all, my first car was a 1962 British ford anglia, blue and white roof and side trim white. I took care of it very much, that people around wanted to buy it until I have to sold it because I immigrated to the United States of American September 8’th, 1990. But you people did very well in talking care of your’vehicles very I am very impressed and proud of you British people.

Re TK Bedford, it wasn`t too bad to work on even though the cab didn`t tilt, obviously not as good as the D-series for access but the engine was pretty accessible all the same. I liked the fact it had the shelf behind the seats as it was a great day bed if you were held up at a delivery! For me the biggest drawback on the TK was that the cab wasn`t tall enough, at 6`4" I ended up with a swan neck after 3 years driving one!! Nice vid mate.

Great video and thanks for sharing✌️😕👍😊💜 Truck preservation and restoration has really come on since I last looked. Reminds me of my childhood, my dad was an owner operator with a small transport firm in the 1970s and early 1980s. We had several Bedford CF vans, the upholstery was very similar to the TK you filmed (took me right back). IIRC dad went for Ford D Series and Leyland Ergos because of easier engine access, the Ford cabs tilted IIRC. The worst we had was a D Series Turbo, although the rest we had were good, we had a couple of Ford A Series too (not great), the best of all was a Leyland Lynx (Ergo) never missed a beat. The bulk were D Series either ridged or tractor units. Mostly UK long distance with a few trips to France etc, hauling snow ploughs/blowers to Scotland, wooden grain storage bins to farms all over the UK, contracts to deliver to nationwide Woolworths, COOPs, also car parts to various places, including refurbished/exchange parts in crates, also plastic injection moulding beads to Matchbox plastic kit factory (Peterborough iirc) etc etc. Happier times💜😊👍✌️

Always drove Bedford TK's, during my 17 years as a house delivery coal man, three and half tonners carrying 120 bags\6ton,30 bags overweight easy,and the coal went off that quick back in the day when every house in the country had coal fires, so that when the WEIGHTS AND MEASURES MEN, ambushed us we were legal or underweight haha, also the side engine flaps, brilliant when you were bursting for a pee in the middle of the street, just leaned in pretending you were checking the engine and pee'd away haha, brilliant all round hard working lorries, perfect height for hand loading and carrying off.

Anybody thinks these machines are nice has never used them for work. They were noisey uncomfortable and ridiculously difficult to work with. No wonder the drivers were knackered after hauling goods. The Leyland Clydesdale and reivers were the backbone of the UK HGV haulage. As for the Bedford trucks, the gearing ratios were designed by a five year old and we celebrated when the Bedford company finally closed only to regret it when it reopened under a different name. The tk gearbox was designed by a nutcase and I challenge anyone to take one up Sutton bank. Need I go on? The ERF s were nicknamed the rocking horse. The plastic cabbed fodens were antiques when they were brand new. The Atkinson was derived from the matador military transports, another shed on wheels, the linkages between gearstick and box used to separate regularly. We used to wear holes in our shoes driving some of these beasts that's because the vibrations was so bad. Can't believe we used to get speeding tickets in these machines, line painting hasn't changed and yes, they've all got engines right next to the drivers without any soundproofing. I've had brake fail in every type and had mates who have suffered cab overs going down the road. The Volvo F7 had the first hand throttle

That K series Kenworth in right hand drive, I wonder whether it’s one of the tens of thousands built by Kenworth Australia here in Australia also that Mack is also plentiful over here, at first I thought it was from here too but I believe the Canadians have versions of our Bull bars for moose Hits, those little TK Bedfords are nicely done and we’re also extremely popular around the suburbs here in Australia too as well as being in larger prime movers also with various engine sizes but those 2 smaller Bedfords on display there in that size here as well as diesel GM-H installed petrol V8’s in 253 & 308 ci heavy duty V8’s based on the Holden car engine, but it really was when ISUZU was marketed that the end came for Bedford and the C series of Chevy trucks in the 80’s

The commentator needs to do his research on Cf Bedfords as that model is not late 70s It is a late 1980s model as the CF1 bodystyle from the 1970s went up to around 1980 with the next models dash
@oldclassiccarUK
@oldclassiccarUK 2 жыл бұрын
Please forgive me, the CF1 facelift came along in 1980 and the CF2 (visually almost the same) in 1984 so I wasn't a million miles out. Checking the (private) reg. on this example, it was first registered May 1984, I mistakenly said late 70s while walking around the lorry park due to glancing at the reg. and seeing a 1978-79 registration on it.

Hi again...I was chatting with your lad about TK's and FG'S. I spent a couple of decades living in trucks and camper vans and I LOVE TK's FG's and D-series trucks. However I spent 49 years of my fifty thinking (As your lad did) that FG's were Bedfords. It was only on searching for "Bedford FG" I discovered that the vehicles I love were actually BMC (Austin/Morris/Lelyland) Is there a Bedford that resembles an FG? I don't normally get confused about such obviously different marques and I found your son's assumption that they were Bedfords interesting....am I getting similar models confused or is it the dementia starting to kick in?

So I made a joke about Welsh reg plates and now find out you've got family from there. I feel like a donkey now. I'm sorry if I offended you before sir.

No worries I don't remember you joking about anything, not that it'd bother me anyway :)

Repent to Jesus Christ! Are you a sinner? Mark 2:17 King James Version 17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Thanks for another great truck show. My favourites this time are the Mack, the stunning looking Atkinson Borderer and that amazing red Kenworth. 👍😍

I drove a lot of rigids over the years and always liked the TK/TL models. The windscreen was good for forward visibility but a bit low at the header rail if you were tall. Where it worked well was if you were double manned, two bags of clutter and sleeping bags went on the big shelf behind the seats which was pretty unique.

That blue tk bedford spud lorry. The spelling is wrong on the cab. Womboune is spelt with an E . On the end.
