Great review of the SSZ, Ross. Sure has a great sound. Goes well and looks good for the kilometres it’s done. Don’t see many around these days. I seen a black SS Crewman come into work one day a while ago. You could tell it has really been used for work. I hope at least some of them will be looked after for years to come. Enjoyed the review. Thanks Ross.

It doesn't really matter about km affecting hp and 0-100. A lot of high km LS motors are in perfect condition. The cam and bearings look like new and minimal wear on the bores. Oil leaks don't affect hp either.

Decent review. I very nearly brought a VZ 6.0 manual RWD Crewie when I was shopping. But settled on the VY 5.7 auto X8 AWD fully optioned except for sunroof in Turbine Grey simply for the better ground clearance around farm and mostly country road driving & road handling/grip. It’s currently my daily for family of 5 including a toddler car seat in the middle with 360K on the clock and only major repairs in its life thus far are a lower control arm (thanks NSW roads) and very recently a new 4L60e gearbox and rebuilt differential. I will never sell it I don’t think. The only things I would change about it will be one day it getting the tub removed for a steel drop side tray. And possibly the new tr6060 manual conversion for the Adventra/Crewman Crosstrac AWD system.

I've got the VZ 3.6 Crewman bought new in 2005, have done 212,000 K's. Still has original timing chain, which I've heard can be a problem with the Alloytec engine. But I have always kept up with schedulded servicing which I think helped. At the time of purchase was humming and harring over the V8 or 6 versions, with hindsight I made the wrong decision. I think I made the decision because the 6 had leaf springs. Bought it mainly because I was working in Nullagine at the time and needed a car that could handle the corrugation in the dirt roads. Also Carry a months worth of groceries and beer and a family of three. Have done 5 round trips from Port Hedland to Melbourne ( 8,000 Ks each ) with no problems. Changed out my suspension and bushings 2 months ago ( front and rear ). Didn't need to be done, could've got another 20 or 30,000 K's out of the bushings but shocks needed doing. Got a good deal for everything so why not. That's all I've done apart from normal wear and tear stuff. I've only 2 complaints. It drinks petrol like a thirsty camel and the back seat is too upright and a bit cramped.
