The S on Supermans chest in some versions like Superman and Lois and injustice stand does not stand for hope it's the symbol of the House of EL so it's his family crest. Aslo typically when Martha makes the suit for him it was made from the Fabric of the blankets he was sent to earth with thus why it holds up
