Seed Compost trials 2024 plus Compost buying advice

Seed Compost compared with my own free blend trialled against purchased brands. Followed by good advice on what to look out for when buying compost. New format video start, I would appreciate to know if its a better entrance to allow people to skip ahead to a particular subject. Is this helpful? Is a bit of cheesy music needed?

Great to see you back Mike....you are very advanced in your potting up.. I know the weather is no help. We've been having dreadful weather in Dingle.....most unusual....and so cold. I have vety little done....just afew straggley tomato seedlings. I haved lived here for almost 60 years and it is the worst Feb I can remember. As I write is flogging hailstones!!. What I do have is four bins of lovely compost....all done by your recipes....and I hope to have a good late garden. I hope you and your family got through the winter without any major health wobbles. I look forward to your nex educational video .....and wish I was younger and able to benifit from it. Stay well and happy gardening🥕🥦🥒

Cheers Mike, we get our compost delivered straight from the manufacturer for our allotment shop so it never sees rain or sunlight and you are right it makes for better results. Home made is always a winner and thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

@sowgroweat6987 just sifted some bags of clover and it was so fluffy even though it was stacked up, but because it was in my shed on the floor it got it's shape back because the moisture content was perfect.

I like the new style intro but yes it needs some commentry or naff music. Thanks for sharing the compost trials as the last couple of years seem to have worked and I myself should have a batch ready next year to try myself. Costs are rising too much and Compost really going up in price so it will be good to make it for free. The end part of this video is GOLD as I never really thought about how this stuff is stored and this year being so wet it will be worse than ever. I shall be squeezing my compost bags this year lol

Lack of light due to weather is a problem I certainly get. Reuse of soil where you can is a good idea. I do it also. Hope the sun comes out for you Mike. Take care

Nice one Mike. If I have to buy compost like you showed at the garden centre (or DIY store) I always remove the top layers and grab the bags lower down.

Thanks for the tips with the compost I went with verve and jack's magic. And I been using Asda seedling compost for my seedling. I'm pretty pleased with it and the results have been pretty good.

Hi Mike all my seed compost this year is from last years sspc potato container, im going to sift it and add some vermiculite. Seeds need good contact with the soil for good germination, the rough stuff would probably be ok for beans or peas but small seeds it definitely needs sifting. Looking forward to your results. Great compost advice and great observations. Can't wait to start sowing now im home.👌💪👍🤠🙏

good show Mike, all my own compost seemed a bit too fine for seeds so I dug round the edge of the vented bag my johnson-Su compost was in to get some drier/rougher twiggy stuff to bulk out the fine stuff and help drainage, peppers have gone mad in it, I think I'm going to have to pot them on before they go into the GH
