The gymnosperms (which includes phylum Coniferophyta) mark the evolution of seeds: a protector over the growing sporophyte. We explore how the life cycle may bother those with seasonal allergies and how their reduction of some of their life stages have enabled them to not rely on water for fertilization.

Pinus longeava the bristlecone pine. A trip to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains of Eastern California (Inyo National Forest) is worth taking. These trees eking out a living at 11,000 ft elevation are the oldest trees in the world. Some over 3,000 years old. Grandview Campground near the forest has a spectacular view of the eastern escarpment of the Sierra Nevada Range. It's also a mecca for amateur astronomers.
