I love these videos, such awesome stories. Wish I had more growing space, as I am running out of room.

These grow wild in Iceland. I saw some plants there, but none of them were in bloom. I’d like to grow them here, suspect full summer sun in South Carolina would be too intense. Perhaps late autumn or very early Spring would work.

I have yet to get any germination. I tried in the spring and again last month. :( Zone 4. Gets afternoon shade. I am keeping it moist with grass mulch. I guess I just need to be patient.

you need to sow seeds in fall or spring while its still cold, or hold the seeds in your fridge for several weeks before planting!

Are the roots similar to salsify at all? Hmm, intriguing plant🤔😀

They belong to different plant families.

I have the plant growing in my garden and when it doesnt taste like anything but lettuce. Its name comes from the leaf shape not the flavor. Unless maybe the stocks taste like oyster! I havent tried the stalks at all only the leaves

That sounds very interesting!!!

I have a question. At 0:21, is this actually a oyster leaf plant? It looks quite different from the ordinary ones. It has rounder, thicker leaves with much more astonishing colour(if the colour is not edited). Can you tell me what exactly this kind of oyster leaf plant is and where to buy its seeds if available? I really what to grow some!

Our photographers did not take the photo at 0:21, so I can't be certain if the colors have been edited or not. You can see the photos of the plants we grew from our seed at rareseeds.com.

Can this grow in zone 9b im in the desert environment but i live in an old river bed so when it rains it floods and the temps are pretty mild when its cold out. Whats the hottest temp it can handel

The heat may be a bit much for the Oyster Leaf Plant. You can find a place that gets some protection from the sun or even plant it in a pot and bring it in for some relief from the heat during your warmest months. It will not thrive in intense heat.

I keep trying, but can't get these to germinate.

Don't give up! They germinate rather erratically and like fairly cool soil. 60°F is about right. Cover sparsely with soil.

Most members of the borage family have pyrolizidine alkaloids, which aren't safe for your liver. Has this plant been tested?

Thanks for reaching out about this. In our research, we have not encountered this as an issue. Oyster leaf plant has long been foraged and grown in Europe. Thanks for bringing this to our attention and if you’d like to continue the conversation or send us research links we'd be happy to dive deeper into the subject.
