One of the biggest mistake I've made is not checking on the compactness of the soil. If you can't jam a screwdriver more than 3 inches into the dirt then your grass won't survive the summer or winter. You have to use a liquid aerator or mechanical aerator to really loosen the soil so the roots can grow deep. Otherwise the grass will grow but then die later or have difficulty growing tall. It's just one of those things you learn from experience.

Is it too late in the spring season to seed bare spots? I tried a few weeks back and had no luck. Thinking the weather was too cold at the time (I live in Illinois). Wondering if the ez straw over the top impacted my seed from growing?

Decided to do soil test since growth has been bad. Even growth spots(you can see in video) from last fall, doesn't seem to want to grow. Test results PH 7.12 (5.8-7 optimal) Nitrogen 1.61 (7.0-18) Sulfur 2.83 (7-16) Iron 1.82 (4-11) So put down some all purpose fert (20-0-0) with 24% sulfur and some ironite. Plenty of sunshine and warm temps next 10 days. Hope to see another video by mid summer showing a beautiful strip of grass! At least before you get your lawn to grow!!

I’ve never rolled in or stepped in my seed and have had fantastic results. If you prep the seed bed properly I don’t think it’s necessary

So we put down seed and then the next week the temperature dropped during a week of rain bringing the soil temp too low to start sprouting. It’s starting to warm up but hasn’t sprouted still. Could it still take? We’re keeping the ground wet and the rain is still helping, it’s just not as cold. I’m worried the cold ruined it, but maybe it’ll just take more time. I got a variety that should’ve started sprouting within 7 days and it’s almost been 14

I’m assuming that Meso is similar to Tenacity since Tenacity has mesotrione as the active ingredient, but is that bottle of Meso cheaper than Tenacity? I probably got another couple years left with my Tenacity until it expires but it was $70 and I think it had a 5 year shelf life.

Meso is Tenacity. Generic mesotrione is the same as Tenacity, but cheaper

Any suggestions on controlling japanese stiltgrass in my newly seeded lawn? Sprayed tenacity last fall, then Bayer Acclaim Extra this spring. The stiltgrass is going to take over my inch high newly seeded lawn. Fighting South Dakota drought like conditions and high temps. But keeping it wet/moist. How can I knock down this weed? Still have to wait the 30 days before spraying??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
