It sucks to be home when you live in chaos, I used to spend 2-8 hours a day at tacobell when I was 13-15 because I had an abusive family and it was a safe and friendly place where I would often meet friends, do homework, and just be able to be alone on occasion

It’s kinda 50/50 at family owned All you can eat places. There was a place that was so happy watching us 5 boys and my parents come in on Saturdays for their Steak and Shrimp nights. After the first time though they’d always make a show/joke about sending someone to the back to make more food, “Get back there and make some more food the (insert last name) family is here.” Other places if it’s not well established yet our parents would get a side conversation that they pretended the kids couldn’t hear asking us not to get more than 4 plates per person when there are so many of us.

My neighbor took me to golden corral 2 weeks ago, It was kinda packed at 1:30pm on a Saturday. When we arrived we sat next to 2 elderly men who apparently came there every weekend(we spoke to them, they were really nice and funny). Maybe 45mins after we arrive, the waiter came over to them, called one of them by name and asked them if they could move to a back area where they hold large groups. He told them with season in it was getting busy with no seats and he hated to ask them to move from their regular seats but he knew they would be there for awhile but needed to serve other customers coming in. The waiter helped them move their stuff to the back area and within mins new people were sitting next to us. It seems they dont mind people staying awhile especially regulars as long as they work with the restaurant when it gets busy.

I’m a server…and I’m thinking I’m old school! When I leave my shift, I actually give my tables to the girl taking over. Idk but I’m embarrassed that tell my customers that they need to check out…cuz my shift is over. I absolutely can’t do it! Sometimes I will lose tips from 4 or more tables…but, I’m good. I just can’t do it! And, I actually heard a coworker asking a table if they wanted their change. Omg NEVER. I could never ever do that.

Honestly, from someone who has worked in restaurants for longer than I’d care to admit….. if you’re compensating the service staff for the lost potential wages by taking up earning real estate for that long of an amount of time, I see no problem here. Except I hope wasting an entire day in a Golden Corral is worth the time for you, as well

The one thing to remember if you do this in a restaraunt with servers is to tip according to how long you were there. Servers have sections and as long as youre sittin at her/his table they cannot flip that table. There was a woman that would do this at a diner i worked at. She would stay for the entirety of us being open and tip like $5. If she sat in your section it would cost you an entire half a days wage.

Yep they literally don’t understand that in a busy or not so busy restaurant they are actually costing you money when they stay for hours on end or really anything beyond what it takes to enjoy a well paced meal . Then they will act like they Are doing you a favor by leaving that 5 on the table . Even if it’s not busy it still puts you lower in the rotation when u have a table that continues to sit forever . No waitress minds you staying as long as you like if you take the fact that in a pretty upscale restaurant you could have turned that table three times and made upwards of 60 or more on that one table into consideration when tipping . Sheesh .

Even if it’s not busy having one table regardless of how much they tip or how long they sit puts you lower in rotation than some one with zero tables even if the other server has already turned her table 2 times to your table that is still sitting. No server minds you staying as long as you like as long as you are considerate of his or her time and tip appropriately. Most servers make 2.13 an hr that they pay taxes out of so cheaping out on paying for a service you initiated won’t make you any friends.

Not really. If she was doing this during a busy holiday time with limited seating, I could see your point. It doesn't seem she's doing that. We even see 1-2 empty tables a couple times. This buffet didn't seem to be packed. She wasn't stopping anyone from having a meal there even if she stayed a long time It's better to get the good publicity and good karma from laying her stay, rather than kicking her out just for staying too long
