Years ago when I was painting my daughters bedroom the new paint I was rolling on caused the old paint to start coming off in big sheets! Needless to say I was panicked, we had a friend Harry Russel who had been doing drywall for over 30 years. He saved the day by telling me to go get a gallon of concrete sealer. I painted those walls with it and it sucked all that loose paint on like magic. Never forgot that tip. The concrete sealer looked exactly like the product you were using and is available at any Home Improvement store. I have since then owned several businesses and become a Custom Decorator and had my Contractors license prior to semi retirement. I love showing and teaching people how to have the home of their dreams on their budget. It’s all about spending money in the right places. One other tip. Thin your drywall compound and it will work much smoother and also save finish time. Thank you for your videos and the time you give to others!

I bought some of that sealer a little wile ago to make repairs on a lath & plaster wall. There was a spot on the wall that had water damage and the plaster had became crumbly. I didn't want to make a big job bigger, so I soaked the plaster with this product. I let it dry for 24 hours. the sealer bound the crumbly plaster back to a solid foundation. Repairs made, no problem. Great stuff. Worth the $$$. Probably not the exact intended application for this sealer. But it worked.

Great tutorial Leah..... Just a couple points if you don't mind. I have been doing drywall repairs for over 25 years and can tell you the product being used is watered down white glue. I have been making and using this product for many years. 1 part premium white glue, Lepages or Weldbond brand and 2 parts water. Apply just as shown in the video. One tip when applying your drywall compound.... When applying always thoroughly mix your compound before use and wipe it on one direction and wipe or scrape it off the opposite direction, that works it into the loose edges of the paper better. You can also add the white glue to your paint, 1 cup glue to a gallon of latex paint to cover stains without them bleeding through. No oil paint needed. Good Job Leah
@suzeec1702
@suzeec1702 7 жыл бұрын
GotU Productions - thanks for the tip! I've havent heard of using white glue in latex paint to help cover stains. Does it change the sheen of the paint? Would sure be a lot cheaper than using a stain blocking paint. And save a quite of bit of time. Thanks again, will definitely be using that tip in the future!

Leave it to Leah to bring another great product here. Years ago when Zinsser first brought this product to market I was in a paint store and the sales rep was showing it to the store owner. He asked me if I give you a gallon would you try it and give me your feedback on it, I use many gallons of it yearly and it yields excellent results every time. I am so pleased to see Leah do this video as you will truly benefit from applying it to your walls and ceilings. It's especially useful when removing wallpaper and even with scrubbing the adhesive off there are always trace amounts of residual adhesive left. This product seals the glue and the fresh paint will not soften it and cause problems. Again GREAT demo Leah, you're a gem.

Love you Leah. I have always loved doing things with wood but never have had much confidence. I am a nearly 72 year old woman and my husband is finally putting a heater in our garage. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. We live in Colorado and as you may know working outside is not real easy in the winter even though our winters can be pretty mild. I have watched so many of your videos and have learned so much. Everytime you put something new on that I don't have, I have to get it. I am always running too the hardware store or going on line. Keep up the great work and continue with a smile on your face. In my senior years, I am having fun learning. Thank God for You Tube and thanks to all of you that continue to share your knowledge. Hi Leah! So, if I tear the paper behind the backsplash while taking down the existing tile, will I need to do this step or is it just when I want to paint over a damaged area? And why wouldn't applying a layer of wall mud/plaster (?) and sanding it smooth not be adequate prior to painting? What is the importance of the paper layer on drywall? (Please excuse my ignorance)

Another thing i learned is to take some regular old primer in a cup, mix some water. Like make a nice watery primer mix and then throw in a little Elmer's glue. Go over the spot and your not really painting your soaking the mix into the area. Let dry and its good to go.

I just picked up a can of this on clearance for $4.50 at my local hardware store. I’m wondering if it will work well on furniture with bondo repairs. Have you ever used it in furniture?

Love your show. Just use a pva glue and water mixture instead of expensive products. We apply this with a roller to all drywall projects before painting or plastering, it locks in any dust or paper.

PVA glue...as in regular Elmers glue? What's your glue to water ratio?

Great job! Wish I had known about this a few years ago when we had a "pro" remove wallpaper and paint our master bathroom. They left the wall all scarred and uneven and just painted over it. The walls were lightly textured, so it would probably been impossible to match the texture without somehow smoothing all the walls completely, or applying a heavier texture. You seem to know a lot about just about everything involved in home improvement. Do you have any tips for dealing with repairs on textured walls? BTW, I just subscribed to you channel yesterday. I love the way you explain things and then demonstrate what you're telling us. Keep up the good work. :-)

I have a small (quarter-sized) rip in the wall and before I saw your video was going to use a razor knife and cut the paper around the bad spot, cover with Gardz, then spackle, then sand, more Gardz and then paint. Good idea or bad?
