Leah, I am so thankful for you. I’m a single homeowner with no “handy person” to help me with house projects. You have helped me so much. The people around me are so impressed with what I have done/am doing all on my own! It has saved me so much money, it has assured me a job well done, it has alleviated the anxiety of paying a stranger to come into my house to do it, it has increased the value of my home, and perhaps most importantly, it has made me feel empowered and confident that I don’t need a man to get things done. I thank you so much, and I really appreciate the way you break things down for beginners. You’ve made real difference in my life. Thank you, and keep it up! 💖💪🏽

+Raeed Tayeh KZbin is better than a TV show. You can search on topics and KZbin automatically suggests related content. Unlike a TV show, you can watch the videos as often as you want, any time. Also, unlike a TV show that is constrained by advertising breaks, a KZbin video can be 100% information, no fat and no time wasted by rehashing previously covered information following a commercial break! (If you've ever watched a Home & Garden TV show, you know what I mean: Seven minutes of information, following by 3 minutes of commercials, followed by two minutes of recap after the commercials. In the end, a half-hour show has just 10 minutes of useful information, if you're lucky. It's mostly a waste of time and an exercise in frustration.)

Been in the trades for a long time (1 trade, Union Ironworkers) I am doing some remodeling on an older house I bought last winter and have been using KZbin to do it for the most part because ironwork does not translate to carpentry barely at all. You are a great instructor , very patient . Perfect for the very new . A bit too patient for my experience, until now. I’ve walked by 25 years of drywall and drywallers and realize I didn’t know sh:t about drywall outside of patching holes poorly . Thank you.

Leah, thank you so much for this video and your other ones about texturing. I had a couple minor cracks above doors, and a rather big one across my ceiling that I taped and mudded. I then blotted on more mud with a crumpled up plastic bag and flattened it gently with the taping knife. Primed, painted, and you cannot see anything is amiss now. I was able to do it from following the techniques in your videos. Your confidence is contagious! You're a treasure!

This has helped me SO much, as a woman who loves to do home improvements, and loves to get her hands dirty, and a husband who hates them, he'd rather go get his nails pulled out than to do a simple home improvement ! we bought a mobile home after my health got worse, and I needed to be on 1 level not 3 like our house is, but the young couple who owned it before we bought it almost destroyed this place, and since I'm use to a house, I wanted my trailer ( mobile home) to look more like a nice home, not the cheapness of the trailer and by all means they are not cheap at all when you go buy one, but some are cheap made like mine! fake wood everywhere. Anyways, I removed the fake pieces of wood trim running up and down my walls every 2 foot or so, and now I've made a mess and a lot of work for myself, so when I found this I was delighted ! I ran to Lowes and got my materials, and now I'm watching once again for a refresher course so I know I'll be doing it right ! THANK YOU !!!

Wow, great job. I should have watched your video a long time ago. Here's a few of my noob tips - stuff I learned the hard way: 1. Use a small putty knife for filling in screw/nail heads for jusr the first coat, and fill in the hole starting at an edge. If you go right over the top, you can get an air bubble that you just gotta deal with that. 2. Do not use the solid fiberglass tape, just don't. 3. Use a low angle on your knife to spread, going lighter and lighter to smooth. 4. Use a higher angle to scrape of excess 5. Keep the ready-mix closed tightly. Scrape away the plaster from the top-inside of the bucket take assure a good seal. 6. Make sure no dry bits of plaster are mixed in with the wet stuff, it'll just leave streaks. 7. Don't just use a small knife for the job, you need larger knife to smooth properly or you'll end up doing more sanding and coating then needed. 8: Double check the thickness of the existing drywall before buying more to patch in - it comes in 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 thickness.

wow, thanks! but i wanna know the actual difference of using a fiber mesh against a paper tape?
@alexandergraef89407 жыл бұрын
The paper binds to the mud, so it works right away if tensile strain occurs. The fiber tape needs a full tensile strain before working, by then the mud if often already broken.

In the UK drywall is relatively new (20 something years) and my mothers new house keeps getting cracks in her ceiling, i cannot believe all the repairmen do is use filler, they dont tape the joints, and wonder why they keep cracking! you should come over and teach them! or earn a fortune yourself!
@starodin9 жыл бұрын
+jusb1066 if they dont use jointape they no craftsmen. i use it all the time, but its my realday work. hotmix as in video i only use in repair, never else. the finish mix, have glue in it, so the joint works like a welding point. but it takes longer time to dry using this, normaly 24hrs.
@brockberryman35728 жыл бұрын
+jusb1066 20 years?! I was using it 40 years ago in UK....... But, you are right about the absence of tape. Funny thing, the British use drywall, but then they skim over the whole surface, just as they used to with lath and plaster. This is no doubt the fundamental explanation for the decay of British civilisation. Thank you Leah for your wonderful, clear tutorials. You have a real genius for teaching.

Finally I can finish drywall and have it look great thanks to this video. Just finished prepping my kitchen for new cabinets. Soffits were removed and the drywall needed to be patched in and made to go with the existing ceiling. It came out just like a pro. Never knew about putting my hand on the back of the knife like she shows. I wish I had seen this video years ago. Would have saved me a lot of pain!

Leah, You are truly like the Bob Ross of home improvement. You are to the point, but very pleasant and you have an awesome way of simplifying a task that might be considered difficult. Thank you for taking the time to film these videos. I honestly look forward to more from you. and I agree with Raeed Tayeh, you would be a great TV host.

Just watching this 8 years later. Leah made it easy to understand and follow, and I am going to do it myself...but I wish Leah was here to do that sort of amazing work at my house!

Leah - you are GREAT. Excellent video. Very easy to understand, and comprehensive enough that anyone would have enough knowledge and confidence to attempt this on their own.

Wholehearted agree with comments of the others. HGTV/DIY......you're missing out on a great opportunity. Subscribed as soon as I watched some of my first episodes. I've come here for my first & best explanations of a ton of projects from the drywall to welding & rejuvenating a craigslist treasure of an air compressor. Thanks Leah.

This is one of the most perfect how-to videos I've seen in a while. Concise instructions, fantastic audio and camera, with easy to follow commentary. I'll be looking for more seejanedrill videos in the future.

Excellent video. I've done drywall quite a few times and after watching this video I realized I have been mixing the compound the wrong way by adding the water into the compound. I also realized that I should mix the 2nd coat with more water. Thanks for the great video.

EXCELLENT video. Absolute amatuer here, and I picked up some pointers from drywall guys which MAY have been helpful for the neophyte, but your method is FAR better. These guys recommended putting more pressure on the outside of the knife on all coats, leaving the middle ( the joint ) with slightly more mud. The end result of course is more sanding. Thier method leaves amateurs some wiggle room, but it takes more material and requires considerable more work. Thanks for an excellent tutorial. Best I've seen.

We are reworking my mom's house and doing the work ourselves. I've been watching your videos on drywall and am really impressed with your teaching skill as well as your ability. Thanks for being so clear. To say that I have no previous experience at this is an understatement! However, my walls look pretty good.

These Videos have helped me from the start of my project. I have very little experience and have been able to completely build my own office because of Leah. Thank you very much for your help! Your videos are the best I have found on the subject. The videos are very easy to understand and the pace at which you go through all the steps is perfect. I always feel very confident in my abilities at the end of each of your how-to's. Thank you Leah! I agree, you should have your own TV show!

Wish there was a "love" button for this video! I am new to some things in remodeling and was dreading researching the subject of taping new drywall junctions. Great instruction, you made it seem simple. Thanks for helping me not give up on more DIY projects.
