I have the seek compact (iPhone version) here in the UK. Like anything it's good to have a bit of practice working with it, and I can now spot heating pipes buried in the concrete floor of my (new to me, but old-ish 1930/1980) house, plus I can identify areas of poor attic insulation by looking at the upstairs ceilings. Both of these were things I specifically needed because I wasn't familiar with the house's systems and had a plumbing issue, and the Seek works really well for this sort of thing. In the UK nothing is particularly low-cost but the seek won out because of the resolution compared with the Flir One. I don't find the seek that easy to focus - the framerate is 9 hz so you have to be a bit patient and it's trial-and-error really, but once in focus it is really good. The spatial resolution is better than the Flir, but I don't think it's quite a sensitive to temperature differences (the Seek has 1 degree C increments). However, it's great for my purposes. I couldn't justify the cost of the seek or flir pro and to be honest, I don't think pipes buried in concrete will be that much sharper with a higher resolution because of the way heat spreads out. It's plenty good enough to spot overloaded circuit breakers and seeing how things like washing machines and amplifiers are generating heat, and to be honest, generally giving you peace of mind about what your house is up to. Another advantage over the Flir is that it doesn't need its own battery, so I can just plug it in and go without having to charge it - for occasional use, it's great not to have to keep something charged, or more likely, plug it in and then find I need to charge it before using! It fits my iphone even though the phone has a thick case and I like that it has a protective case (as it's a tiny thing and would get easily lost or damaged in a drawer). Hope that's useful to anyone out there shopping around.

It's sharp and noisy woth the Seek, blurry with the FLIR, but the Seek camera definitely brings more detail. it's not digital filters at play here... for me, I'd go with the Seek and use smooth filters in postprocessing...

For anyone who wants to know, that clicking noise and the video feed pausing is the camera calibrating itself It takes some getting used to, but it’s worth the higher resolution compared to the FLIR

Just got the Seek a couple of weeks ago. 320x240 resolution at 15 fps. at least compared to the FLIR embedded in my Cat S60, it's light years away. Also, even if there's no visible light overlay, the resolution is high enough to distinguish label names on warm objects. It was sensitive enough to see outgoing heat pipes through the ceiling wall. So far, it's helped me calibrate recirculation pump flow relative to the output temperature on my boiler.

good to see your flir acutal image overlay isn't ligned up properly either. Very annoying they don't align better.

If that's not a fluke they can fix by sending it back to them there's almost no reason to get the Flir.

As far as I read there is a setting to adjust, it says it is default set for 3m or something like that.

Thanks for the video. At 3:14 the hood comparison - the Seek looks to have a lot better detail. It also was obvious that the Seek had better detail when you were panning the electrical box and garage opener. Flir's rechargeable battery is already a deal breaker.

Yep - I absolutely agree and bought the Seek for both of those reasons. As an occasional user I don't want to plug a Flir in to the phone and then find I can't use it because it needs charging. The Seek is plug-and-go. Really quick to use and then put away for next time.

Can you do a comparison of the new Klein Tool thermal camera vs the Seek thermal cameras for phones which is at the same exact price point. No one on KZbin has done a comparison video yet.

To much noise on the Seek and way to blurry on the Flir. some way in the middle would be optimal. Just picked one of these thermal Imager up, Seek pro FF. and here also massive noise but also way shaper when you align the shot, likely down to 76800 res (240x320)...

my guess is that flir has a lot of noise too but they blur it out.

Yep, the seek is noisy - it auto-ranges so depending on the min and max temperatures it can produce a noisy image.

I notice the noise when the max-min temperatures are less than 2°C apart.

There is actually an image smoothing setting that lets you reduce the noise. Oddly enough, the noise is reduced when image smoothing is set to off.

Which one looks like a child's toy...the FlirOne or the Seek(?) Great, so f you know of another smartphone thermal image camera (that in your words does not "looks cheap ! Blurry, like a child's toy") by all means, please tell us what you would suggest...?...
