“When it’s all said and done I’m left with this confliction. I’m happy, I’m sad. I’m happy to have the privilege to have followed him for so long, I’m sad that it’s over. Im happy that I got him, I’m sad that he’s dead. I feel full, but empty at the same time. I’ve always hoped I’d be remembered for truly loving these animals that we hunt, but I may have let this one get too close to me. I don’t expect everyone to understand and that’s okay, I know I’m different in ways about whitetails, but gez he meant a lot to me.” Wow Lee that last quote to close it out really hits home man! Stay true to the lord and he will continue to bless you!

Thought about this myself on the way home with one of the big deer I’ve been after. Knowing he’s gone. It sucks. I get the same way with turkeys. Less personal but knowing he’s not there gobbling tomorrow. But I wouldn’t have it any other. The chase is what we live for.

I know right 😂 he's got 6 or 7 target bucks at any given time. The amount of time he's spent hunting each of those deer varies greatly: 1st buck he's been hunting for four yrs running, 2nd buck he's been hunting for two yrs, 3rd buck is on year five & counting (real smart deer to stay just out of range of Lee's arrow), 4th buck is a Booner who first appeared on his trail cam last season...y'all get the picture 😂

I’ve heard guys talk about the wave of emotions when taking a specific deer they were chasing for a while. I never understood or experienced it before this year. I finally put my tag on a pair of deer I’ve been watching and hunting for the last couple years. The first one was full of positives. Happy to put a tag on a deer for the first time in a few year due to a fire, heavy freeze then anthrax. The biggest deer I’d taken in my life but also knowing there was one more to chase. Once I took that second deer the excitement of taking him was quickly met with the realization that I was done hunting the biggest deer of my life. It’s thrilling but depressing all at the same time.

I too have such a passion for these animals that it's more than just the hunt, it's the chase, the time it takes to pattern, the money and hard work that goes into it, the love of family and friends that go along with the true ride of adrenaline for that one moment. I hope and pray that someday I can meet you and your crew and honestly thank you for the joy you've given me of watching your shows and getting to learn so much from you. Last 20 seconds hurt my heart man. My biggest was a 150-160 10 point that I chased for 2 seasons and i felt this void after I killed him. I prayed and prayed to God that I may have one crack at him after missing and I knew i would be overwhelmed with emotions the day I would kill him. That day came and it was full of immense triumph and sadness bc that story had come to an end. I think all we can do is love these creatures and honor their memory day to day by talking about them and looking at old content because they are truly a blessing from God.
