@whovianhistorybuff4 жыл бұрын
She was nice to psyche because she wandered heartbroken for a while having lost eros and came across a temple to demeter, saw that it was in a mess with grain offerings and farm tools scattered all over the place, she then (despite being heartbroken and no one asking her to do so) decided to clean and tidy the place up, this act of unselfishness, kindness and respect helped her get in demeter's favour and was the first step to getting her love back, there are said to be many metaphors and lessons in this story (one of the reasons why this is one of my favourite greek myths) for example psyche literally means soul and became the goddess of the human soul and hedone literally means joy or happiness (hence where we get the words hedonism and hedonistic from) and that could be said that the union of love (eros) and soul (psyche) can give birth to happiness (hedone). The demeter part could be seen as the idea that if you do a random act of being kindness it can come back to reward you (shown well in another iteration where it was demeter who sent the ants to help her sort the grains). Additional the other gods helped her by various means (Zeus with the eagle, demeter with the ants and the river god with the advice of how to gather the golden fleece) they weren't allowed to help psyche directly although they all agreed that aphrodite was being unjustly horrible to an innocent girl who really had never done anything wrong, she had never even made ANY claims to being more beautiful than aphrodite, other people claimed that.

Eros and Psyche Hades and Persephone Ahhh the sweetest love stories of Greek Mythology.
@@julisantamaria2294 oooh that too. These 3 are the best love stories in Greek Mythology
@joaniedallaire43526 жыл бұрын
The Story of Eros and Psyche is litterally that Love cannot be complete without the Soul. Eros was a mischevious god in most myths and was responsible for a lot of mess (Medea/Jason, Apollo/Daphne, Paris/Helen, etc.). He was more the god of sexual desire (Eros/Erotism) than the God of Love. Psyche wanted to be loved. But her beauty ironically prevented her to find it. Now, notice the parallele between Aphrodite and Psyche. Aphrodite as the goddess of beauty was indeed more obsessed by beauty than true love (she rejected her husband because of his appearance) but Psyche (as the future goddess of the soul) cared about the person inside and felt cursed to be loved more for her beauty than her personnality. Then, Eros fell in love with her but forbid her to try to know his identity. At the end, she was able to love him without even knowing his own beauty but she didn't know who he was (in a way, she didn't know his own soul). So, no wonder, her trust was fragile and at the end she betrayed and hurt her husband. Still, she did all the difficult trials imposed by Aphrodite because she wanted to earn forgiveness of the one she loved. I think the box with the beauty of Persephone inside was a trap from Aphrodite. Psyche became more concerned with her beauty than the purity of her soul for the fist time and she looked inside the box despite the danger and that brought her to loose conscience (litterally her soul). But Eros, clearly impressed by her will to prove herself worthy of him (and teaching him at the same time the true meaning of love) arrived and with his own love brought her soul back to her. And this is how Love and Soul came into an eternal union. Well, that's my vision of the myth. Congratulations if you read it all!XD

Athena got mad and because Gods can't punish other Gods, she took it out on Medusa and turned her ugly. Other myths say that Athena blessed her so that she wouldn't get hurt again. That doesn't make sense since she told Perseus to kill Medusa, and Athena knew that every man was going to try and kill her.
@Trollestiatumblur5 жыл бұрын
@Mac Aguilos That's something that Aphrodite would do, not the Goddess of wisdom. And a lot of myths either start out as "The most beautiful woman" (Helen of Troy, Psyche, Poseidon's wife Aphrimite... Even Aphrodite's story calls her the most beautiful.) Or "Zeus couldn't keep it in his pants and raped hundreds of thousands of girls/women" (including his own daughter, btw)

However, the oracle of Apollo's message was misleading to everyone. I mean, the prophecy said that Psyche would marry a monster, that threw everybody off. LOL Regardless of whether or not Psyche may have known her sisters' true intentions, I donno, them reminding me of what the prophecy said would concern me, especially after some time of consorting with someone who insists on hiding from me in the dark, that alone would be pretty off-putting. But then again, I think if she were concerned about whether or not he'd be a monster, maybe Psyche should have taken that up with Eros. To the people bashing Psyche saying she received help and did not do the tasks on her own: For Pete's sake, what mere mortal could have done what Aphrodite ordered? It's obvious she didn't want Psyche to succeed. Sending her to those golden rams (?) and to the Underworld without explicit instructions were practically like sending her to her death. The box, though, that was totally on her 🤣. But that's what I love about her. She represents naive and innocently insecure girls, instead of feisty and rebellious ones who I am already so tired of.

What a profound story! It's easily 1000x better than Romeo and Juliet because it connects to multiple archetypes deep within the human soul: the need to connect with another in a meaningful way, the need to endure hardship to attain lasting fulfillment, the requirement that one die to self to find true love, etc. I found it deeply moving. I have to go think about it for a while. Thank you for the vid!

Lucifer is a gaslighting movie that is trying to make the fallen angel seem desirable and interesting while angels and God are painted in a bad way. There is a bible verse warning about when bad things are made to seem good and vice versa, be warned.

The meanings of these stories are hidden in the meaning of their names. Psyche = Breath of life, Eros = Passion/Desire/Love. Passion/Desire/love feel in love with life, life feel in love with desire. Life got what they desired. The world became jealous, life was convinced what they desired was truly not what they desired. What they desired got angry and left life. Life focused on attaining what they desired and the gods came together to help life even when the feats were impossible. Life went to hell and back for what they desired, but then lost focus and began desiring something else (more beauty). Life died, but in death they're united with everything they truly desired. Lesson if you devote your life to your passion you can do the impossible, but stay focused.

Hmm, maybe those words derived their meanings from the story instead.

Well, it’s not Psyche’s fault for being beautiful. Greek Gods and Goddesses didn’t create what they’re God of (i.e.: Aphrodite, Goddess of Beauty, Love and Sex). They’re just the symbol of that. What I don’t understand is why these Gods and Goddesses are revered when they’re as selfish as mortals; stepping down to the lower ranks of existence, punishing humans for personal and yet selfish reasons.

In most adaptations I hear of this story, Eros didn't help or support Psyche so much as he did in this one. I mean, he came around and reconciled with her, sure, but am I the only one who feels like she was the one who contributed the most to and for their relationship? She made one mistake, which honestly wasn't that big of a mistake, since all she wanted was to know who her husband really was, and he flips out on her and leaves her for good, over one misunderstanding? I don't think that's fair. I don't know, am I missing something here?

1. Eros' sphere is more 'attraction' than 'love'. 2. His arrows are *always* the source of attraction hence Zeus berating Eros and threatening him with being cast into Tartarus in 'Dialogues of the Gods'.
