DIY Loft Bed Plan
These plans are for a Twin XL loft bed plan (which will fit over a queen bed). To change this plan into a regular Twin-sized loft bed, simply convert all boards marked as 81” down 76” (including the plywood).
Shopping list:
2x4 8 ft long (12) posts, rails & base support
2x6 8 ft long (3) bed side rails
2x2 8 ft long (2) cleats
1 in. sheet plywood cut at 39”x81”
2 1/2 in screws (approx 80)
Helpful tools:
Circular saw
Sander
Drill
Cut list:
* 4 - 2x4 @ 65” - posts
* 5 - 2x4 @ 81” - side guardrails (4) and floor frame support (1)
* 2 - 2x6 @ 81” - bed rails
* 2 - 2x2 @ 81” - cleats
* 2 - 2x6 @ 42” -bed rails on ends
* 5 - 2x4 @ 42” - guardrails on ends
* 1 in plywood cut to 39”x81” (I then had that cut in half so it would be easier for me to move around on my own).

Jessa, the thing that strikes me the most is how articulate and mellow your children are in all situations. No matter what, they just roll with it because you are so calm and down-to-earth. I love that about you and your family. You treat your children like little people and they rise to the occasion each and every time. I love to sit back and listen to their little conversations and their perspectives on the world. You are a wonderful mother and a beautiful person. We need more people like you in this world. You amaze me with your fearlessness, creativity, and carpentry skills.

Did I seriously just see you build a loft bed from scratch...By yourself!?!? You should be the poster woman that women can do ANYTHING! And to do it with two little boys wanting to help as well...I don’t know how you stay so calm and focused. Spurgeon’s camera skills were great and I loved his narration. A lot of times parents start out wanting to do fun projects with their kids but they wind up in tears and frustration - you, amazingly, kept it fun the whole time and it’ll definitely be something positive that Spurgeon will remember for a long time! Excellent work!

“Well, this is gonna be a fun day, cause look what I’m doin’, helping mommy build a bunk bed!” Every time I see your videos I’m struck with the fact that you love your children uniquely and completely and, they...you. You remember each of them and their special traits or favourites and you always truly seem to be enormously happy every video! Your children are equally as happy. I know it’s impossible to be happy 24/7, but y’all get as close as is humanly possible! My wish for you and your family is to remain ever close your entire life. Let little things fall way like chaff and nurture the grain. You do these things already.

Great job! If you drill several holes in the plywood base, you let the mattress breathe, preventing mold. I learnt the hard way, when I had my young son's mattress on the floor, waiting a few months to find the right bed. Dad explained how that was the reason he drilled holes in the plywood bases of all the beds on the boat he built. I'd never wondered why -- who knew we lost moisture at night, that went into the bed? I saw a van-life video, where the couple found thick mold under their mattress that also sat on a solid plywood base, due to no holes. Spurgeon's "unsightly" explanation ...!!! Oh, man, that was priceless. xo

@NcScbeach1
@NcScbeach1 3 жыл бұрын
Aubrey Clary , My bad, the millennial age group is constantly changing. I’m referring to those young men who are in the 25-33 year olds. As of this year it’s defined as Gen Y.1 = 25-29 years old (around 31 million people in the U.S.). This doesn’t mean that all guys or girls fall into the status quo at this age. However it seems that the more pampered and undisciplined fall into the lazy and lacking in domestic or needed skills to survive. Good parenting and Godly principles taught and instilled at a young age along with teaching basic skills will help generations to come! Also lots of Love and parents living out a good example is key. I wasn’t trying to offend anyone because my son escaped The Millennial “ stigma “ only by hard work and lots of prayers going up on his behalf and teaching him Gods ways.

Great job, Jessa!! I’ve been wanting us to get bunk beds recently, but am intimidated by making them (or buying them! 😳). This was inspiring! You go girl 👊🏼 Also, just from a paranoid mom, I thought I’d mention that you may want to tie the cords on the blinds up (or tuck them up top) now that your kids have a way to reach them ❤️

It’s so sweet that they wanted to watch and help you as well. Such valuable life lessons. My family’s home has been a long term renovation and I loved getting to watch and help my dad out over the years.

Just a recommendation put holes through the ply (router them out maybe), prevents the mattress getting damp. Awesome job love from 🇦🇺

I have never seen holes drilled in platform beds for adults. Is that just a precaution for young children who might wet, or a common design flaw?

I don't think I've ever seen any other women, besides you and your Sister Jana, that were so talented with building stuff. You absolutely amaze me at how skilled you are. Spurgeon is so cute with narrating the video. Such cute boys.

Yes it’s definitely great to see! I’m a handy woman as well and it’s nice to see more women picking up skills like this and don’t rely on a man to do it for them haha.
