Man... even to this day- it feels so strange hearing how Sega ended up and basically making games on its competitors machines. I started with the master system then mega drive with all upgrades like mcd,32x, then Saturn and of course dreamcast. Very well loved machines that were being used at least 16 hours a day constantly. Eventually after marrying and f%$*ing up big in my life- i had to sell my collection for peanuts.... sure, i had rare games or demo disks like keio flying squadron. But understand these units were not looked after in terms of mint (or garage queens if we talked in car lingo) condition units played once a year.... no they were my best and only friend in my school years!! They were very temperamental when sold. Half the time never bootin up. Well loved, well worn etc... played till destruction per say. I really could of gotten much more and have deep regret to this day. However i am VERY VERY grateful for emulation. I have my entire collection plus all my favourite arcades running on my phone - with an 8bitdo mini controller hanging from my car interior mirror, with the Bluetooth providing the sound from my car stereo.... Thank god. I am happy with this. I may not have the "physical" copy of whatever in my hand- but instead i have access to all the arcade games there and then and for free,!!! Its amazing. And thank you. And as for Sega trying to survive after the dreamcast .... yeah this hurt and sucked as an avid Sega fan... and sure it was alien almost seeing them publish games this way; but you gotta understand there situation and business forecast. Totally get it... Sega is not the company it used to be. Understand time moves on, and changes everything. Nintendo i believe will be the next in the coming years but they are genuine genius at marketing old technology to use in a more ambiguous setting. Listen- don't worry if my comment seems convoluted... Sega should of survived the dreamcast age because how far ahead they were. Sony capitalised on the 'stupidz' in regards too softwares. I love Sega and today i know they really are not who they were back then...but who does not love an underdog,? BTW- PlayStation 2 versions of dreamcast games are usually far poorer.... but back then if you wanted to play a certain platform but owned another.... this was all you had. Long live emulation. You allowed me to sell my collection in desperation- but still play every single game with just a few clicks. For that i will forever be grateful. Thanks!!

For me, some games were played so much that they stopped working for some reasons so finding emulator versions bought back the feel. I still have the Sega Genesis in my room but all TVs and its power source don't work with it anymore... Despite this, I refuse to sell because eventually I heard there were some HD models able to run the cartridges still working but ouch the price and scalper-jerks these days....

Sega was destined to fail. Launching systems because they were scared of the competition. Putting all their eggs in the arcade basket was a death sentence. When Sega advertised, it was always a hook like, "Bring the arcade experience home." Of course they had more than just arcade games, the competition was so much better at advertising than they were.

It really sucks that we would only find out once the Dreamcast was discontinued that the DC was drawing better graphics than the PS2, anyway. SONY won the console wars through de facto fraud and anti-competitive practices straight out of NINTENDO's playbook. In the end, the PS2's paltry 4MB VRAM (vs. 16MB for Dreamcast) left many textures economized and blurry, losing so much game detail and slowing down movement in some stages. Most of the PS2's titles would only draw about 1-2 million polygons/sec because SONY had shifted most of the rendering work from the GPU to the CPU, producing janky and blurred images in actual gameplay. And the PS2 & PS3 were even harder to program effectively than the infamous Saturn!

Right? I am enjoying Yakuza: Like a Dragon here, a game that strikes a perfect balance with its serious story and humorous dialogue. The English voice track is also damn good and its change to turn based mechanics and a party based battle system for battling actually works. The Yakuza series is amazing! I am a huge fan of video game series that perfectly capture Japanese culture, and when I first played Yakuza 0 it felt like I was being teleported to that time period and was able to soak in the culture of Japan at the time! Let’s just say PS consoles aren’t selling as well in Japan as they could be, probably because the Switch is doing so well there and Xbox consoles always had terrible sales there, even the Series X/S.😅 With that being said, a healthy amount of software is still being made by Japanese devs and being released on the PS4 and 5. Don’t know what BS the media is spouting about Japan ditching the PlayStation and picking up on Xbox that happened earlier in the decade with the PS5 and SX which is clearly not true. I laughed at that statement and dismissed it after all those Japanese titles came to the PS5. To be fair, there are titles made by Japanese devs that have came to the Series X. For the titles that made it onto the Switch now and not any other console yet, I expect ports of such titles later on like Drainus. For all the titles that have a PlayStation and Switch release, I often go for the PS version because it’s a more powerful system and has trophies. Have yet to import a PS5 title from Japan, not one that already came out in other regions yet. Just being patient for that chance. Still wanting more J-Fighters on the machine.

Nice compilation! Sounds like we'll be getting more Sony Lord X in the future! I knew Sega had strong support for the PS2, but I forgot just how many games they actually developed/published for the system! I feel like Sega _always_ rereleased Sega Genesis games on like every console starting with the PS2. Though, they always kind of neglected the Saturn and Dreamcast when considering compilation titles on modern hardware. It's a shame as there are still solid titles locked exclusively on the Saturn and Dreamcast!

PS2 sold 150M consoles, whereas the Xbox and GC sold only 20-25M, so the PS2 logically became Sega's main platform after the DC. They published tons of PS2 games between 2001-08. Lots of new games and early on many Dreamcast ports and even Saturn ports. Still, even the GC received must-play Sega exclusives like F-Zero GX, Monkey Ball and Beach Spikers, so a Sega fan should own a PS2, Xbox and a GC for the full post-Dreamcast Sega experience.

The original Xbox did seem to be the spiritual follow up to the Dreamcast. That console of which was what Sega was most compelled to initially support when they became a software only company, since they had no previous rivalry with Microsoft, like they did with Nintendo, and Sony. Even that system's controllers were loosely based off the D.C. ones, for better or worse too. As sad as it was when Sega was forced to throw in the towel when it came to making their own gaming systems after something had to give once Microsoft entered the fray, at least it's good you can experience Sega's many amazing gems on numerous platforms, rather than being restricted to being able to do on just a single console like you did when they were both a hardware, and software developer back in the day though.

I bought one of those HDMI upscalers and it looks AWFUL. So once I bought a gaming PC I have decided to just emulate PS2 upscaled. PCSX2 runs pretty well and It handles most games I've thrown at it just fine. I have a DVD drive for my PC so I can just hook it up and play my PS2 discs in the emulator. If you have a PC with a GPU and a CPU with multiple cores you can probably handle PCSX2 just fine. Plus some games have enhancements like widescreen patches.

So glad to see some love for Sonic Unleashed, I was working at Game Stop when that was released, and I loved it! Yet almost every customer I had a transaction with seemed to not like it very much..

Everyone forgets Virtual fighter 4 and I'm glad to see it got some love here. Also you could cover games that started on the Saturn in Japan but came out on PlayStation in the west like Grandia, Thunder Force V, Lunar 1 and 2, Dead or Alive, and so on. Be an interesting take.

I really appriciate videos like this, I dont really need to hear a long explanation on why a game is good or not, I just want to be told a game exists and a bit about it to see if its for me or not. I hate the idea someone gives a game a review and I decide to not check it out, only to find out I would have really enjoyed it given the chance.

I happen to own the Fists of the North Star fighting game on my PS2 despite not being a Hokuto no Ken fan and it’s awesome. It’s made by the same people who made Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. I also have the Rumble Fish on my PS2 which I got as a very late birthday present during the pandemic’s 1st year and just got the sequel on my PS4 for Christmas not too long ago which I mainly play on the PS5 thanks to its free upgrade option available. Have yet to import a PS5 game from Japan though!

Virtual On Marz is the most disappointing thing since my son. Being single player is not the issue, but the fact the gameplay was dramatically slower than Cyber Troopers and VOOT. You don't have the same high speed ability to dash around the battlefield, and it's easier to get hit by enemies without the chance of dodging.

It’s sad to see that I haven’t played any of these titles that came on the PS2. The only SEGA game on the PS2 I’ve played is Yakuza, but now I see these incredible games. It makes me want to play my PS2 again.

My favourite Sega game on the Playstation 2 is easily Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast but my favourite Sega game on the PS2 not mentioned in this video was Ferrari F355 Challenge, which I have for both the Dreamcast and the Playstation 2. I prefer how it plays overall on Dreamcast thanks to the trigger buttons for accelerating and braking but I do appreciate how they added "Great Driver Challenge" on Playstation 2, which is essentially a tutorial mode that the Dreamcast version lacks.

I know the PS2 these days takes a lot of crap for being overhyped, overrated, etc. etc. but honestly it had some truly great games and the stuff from Sega was definitely no exception. Blood will tell alone should be a go to that most people should at least check out.

Later after Sega making Virtual-On Marz for the PS2 since it was my favorite Sega game, that game franchise with the previous Virtual-On title will appear on Japanese tactical strategy game Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, Super Robot Wars K and SupaRobo Gakuen by Banpresto (Owned by Bandai Namco). And Takara Tomy's Zoids, isn't the only series to bring in including Zoids Genesis on Super Robot Wars K, SupaRobo Gakuen. And later, Super Robot Wars: Operation Extend with Zoids: Chaotic Century and New Century.

When Sega stopped to be in the console market, I was worried much about the future of the company. But after I played games like VF 4 Evolution, Sonic Heroes, or later releases on PS 2, I knew that Sega will still be a top one, even without a new console anymore. The only thing I never understood was why the shinning games, that you´ve shown in the video, never came to Europe till today.

I do think Sega had an interesting strategy that generation of releasing exclusive games on each system. Its sad their output has drastically dropped these days and most of their output other than a new Sonic game every few years are mainly either Yakuza games or games picked up from publishers and developers they picked up since then like Atlus and the ones that makes the total war games and football manager.

This isnt made by Sega but still deserves recognition cuz i see literally no one talk about this PS2 game. I'd like for you to cover Arc The Lad: Twilight of The Spirits. The game was ahead of it's time story wise and had neat things going for it with it's gameplay. The OST was really good too and did a great job to make you feel for the scenes. It had some impressive sound design too.
