Thanks! This was really helpful as my GDEMU didn't come with any instructions at all. How do you make all the games region free? I noticed my games still have a region.

@@retfurb Yeah not all games work, i noticed Gauntlet Legends did not work, it would behave like a reset, the Dreamcast logo would show, then the SEGA logo, then it would display the GDEMU menu list of games again. I'm just assuming it's a region issue but maybe it's not. I will do some more testing.

I don't like this tray though, because the extra slot as a storage isn't deep enough and you have to force the CD lid down to close and it can't be good for the SD card itself. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult to find better alternatives since they decided to flood the market with those... Also, i recommend having heatsinks on the 2 big chips, but with this tray, you need to cut out parts of it on the side in order to have clearance for the heatsinks. Another thing, when you install a GDEmu, the original power supply's 12V rail shoots up much higher because of the much lighter load of the GDEmu, i think it goes up to 14V or even higher, so there's a potential of frying parts in your console and damaging things. So when you install a GDEmu, i always recommend a Dreamcast PicoPSU kit as well, i use one of those, along with a 12V 5A external power supply (the recommend 12V 3A minimum), and i have no power problem or weird interference stuff going on.

the regulator in the dreamcast is rated to 130c, at worst by leaving it all you are doing is shortening the life of the capacitors nearing it on the psu board. Some people need the 12v rail for their scart tvs for switching and aspect ratio.

looking into getting one but wondering with the pal Dreamcast system do you need to get a upgrade power supply with it to.
@retfurb8 ай бұрын
This was fitted to the PAL model. I have not done anything to power supply and it has been fine.
@RaptorZX37 ай бұрын
i would suggest getting either the clunky resistors mod, or a Dreamcast PicoPSU kit. It's known that the 12V rail on the original power supply with GDEmu installed, can shoot up to 14V+ because the GDEmu isn't putting as much of a load on the 12V rail as the original GD-Rom drive did. And 14Volts+ for the 12V rail is certainly bad. So yeah, the best more simple fix for this problem is getting a Dreamcast PicoPSU kit, with a power supply of 12V 3A or more (i use a 12V 5A on mine), they often sell them with the option of the power supply as well. Avoid the DreamPSU, i bought one to prepare a friend's console, and i can see some slightly interferences in the picture, because the DreamPSU wasn't designed well enough to handle the power correctly.

Could you please let me know., is it not necessary to replace the power board? I've seen videos where they replaced the entire power supply/power board to a much smaller board, saying that especially in the PAL systems the power could spike because it uses 12v and it isn't compatible with the GDEMU. Is this correct or does it work perfectly fine and safely with the original power board??? I ordered all the parts except for the power board because I was mainly looking at American systems being modded - and they did not need to alter the power supply. But then I heard some of them say that the Pal systems have this power spike issue wth the GDEMU and could potentially cause fire?? Thanks!
@retfurb9 ай бұрын
I did hear once about someone fitting an additional resistor (If I remember correctly), Because the GDEMU draws less power than the cd rom drive. I think it was to stop the console getting warmer. I've had no issues with this one and a previous one I did.
@ramondenhartog87309 ай бұрын
@@retfurb I see, so it basically comes down to luck? Whether this particular unit will have issues or not? I guess I'll just order a DreamPSU just in case I'll need it. Just hope the thing doesn't catch fire haha. Worst thing that can happen is that the system freezes or keeps rebooting, right? :D
@retfurb9 ай бұрын
@@ramondenhartog8730 the installation instructions I received with the GDEMU, didn’t list any other mods required. I think people have done other mods, in case of increased heat in the system. I’ve not had any issues.

@@retfurbit could also be a VA0 modded to VA1 spec for the disc drive connector. There's a mod that exist where you have to change 7 resistors on the VA0 board, in order to change the 5V output on the drive connector, down to 3.3V. It work wonderfully, because i'm using a VA0 modded to VA1 spec for many years now, along with a GDEmu v5.20.5 and a PicoPSU.
