I remember this ad... And owned a Game Gear. Ironic part is unless it was a rather short flight, you'd be out of battery before you landed. :P

@Cube _thedolphin Yeah, I'm a bit SEGA nuts - though back then, I was ahead of the curve I'd say. Because ALL of my friends were Nintendo fans, and later others were the Playstation Psombies-- but I was the only one who was the SEGA guy among all of them. I remember collecting so many SEGA games over the years when they released, and then showing these friends all the amazing games that they were missing, and yes, back then I did the best SEGA spokesperson job in converting so many of my friends into buying SEGA consoles too. :) Share the fun, right? Though, I eventually bought an SNES too because of the incredible LucasArts platformers Super Star Wars trilogy, and then kept buying more SNES games after those because it really was a good console-- I still have all of them CIB, which is pretty rare because every Nintendo kid I knew tossed their Nintendo boxes, while SEGA made awesome plastic shell cases that lasted. :-P If you do get a Game Gear, consider getting a proper mod, because good tech has come out since then that greatly improves the portable's experience, like a proper updated LED screen, better long lasting internal rechargeable battery, as well as TV connectivity à la Nintendo Switch. Just do a YT search and you'll find that the Game Gear community is alive and vibrant showing how to do all of these mods to better the GG experience. The games themselves are hit-and-miss, though there is an official SEGA Master System converter available for the Game Gear allowing you to greatly multiply your gaming library for this portable adding to it some great SMS games too. I'd say that my favorite GG games are the two Shinobi releases, IMO they even hold water compared to the brilliant Genesis Shinobi games and are excellent played on the big screen--

@Unspokenfor Yeh, but were you livin large with the *Super Wide Gear* screen magnifier? I don't do smalls. My Game Gear was so pimped with ALL the add-ons it was like I was carrying around a Genesis-Tower-of-Power strapped to my hip. Ridiculous? Maybe. Legendary? Absolutely.

I wonder if my parents saw this commercial right before i went to korea when i was 7, because i got this exact product, the carrying zipper bag, the games and unit; and was told that this would be great for the long airplane trip. xD

I hope you also had a massive pile of double As or the Sega rechargeable battery pack for that long flight because otherwise 6 AA batteries would’ve lasted you all of 2 hours.

Would have been a better ad if they had used it for Nomad, and had the kid playing the same game the adult couldn't!
TBustah 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the Nomad was based on an earlier product that Sega originally developed for Japan Airlines, the Mega Jet. If you were flying with them, you could rent one for your flight and plug it in to the TV built in to your seat’s armrest. They only kept a few cartridges on hand, but you were allowed to play your own games on it as well. The system also saw a limited retail release, but only in Japan.

There was a Japanese Mega Drive variation that was used in planes.
TBustah 2 жыл бұрын
Starscream91 It made sense for the time. What the others didn’t mention is that it didn’t have a screen. You rented the thing for your flight and were supposed to plug it in to the TV built in to your seat’s armrest. There was also a limited retail release, which I guess was targeted at folks who flew a lot and the three people who had TVs in their cars in 1994.

That guy's plan would have worked if he replace the long @$$ extension cord with a car battery with an outlet adapter he can get from a Automotive retail store. Using a battery with a high amount of watts, amps and it's Cold crank amps from a Standard 12 volt battery for potential results.
