I played this game so much back in the day. It was to the point where I was trying to speed run it without even knowing that speed running was a thing. Not actually keeping track of my time and whatnot, but just trying to power through the game as quickly and cleanly as possible. Nightcrawler was an absolute beast on a few levels where you could teleport through walls. And I seem to recall easily crushing Magneto with Nightcrawler at the end. Easily one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. I still frequently come back to listen to this soundtrack. Thanks for posting it!

36:24 isn't actually the final bosses theme though. It's the Death Bird Boss Fight Theme that takes place after the Shi'ar Empire. It also is the best song in the game IMO. Magneto's Boss Fight Theme is the (Intro/Game Over) track from the beginning of the game.

NO! Whoever thought of that is an ASSHOLE! And I would like to punch him in the face! That was a fucked up low blow. Completely unfair to the player to have to think of that. If it weren't for internet walkthroughs (I didn't look this up, my brother did and then told me about it) I never would have gotten to the final level or beaten the game and I played it for years. Maybe in the early 2000s I learned about this and went back and finally beat it. I guess it really comes down to if you figured it out or not. Looking it up on the internet is not figuring it out. Even if you stumble upon the answer on your own, it's satisfying and cool. When I was told the solution is to reset the game, I was like 'what? Noooo. That's too much' When I tried it and it worked, it was pretty wild but I can say that I was never going to figure this out on my own and I think the game was asking too much.

This is not one of the most beloved Genesis OSTs, and indeed, I myself can think of many, many, maaaaany OSTs I would esteem as "better", either better music, or better use of the tech.....or both. HOWEVER This is so full of sentimental value to me! A few months before we got our Genesis, we rented one (remember the days of console rentals?) and this game is the game we rented with it. It was pretty impressive! So, it was my first -REAL- taste of Sega Genesis. We had gotten a Super NES the Christmas before, and I would remain an "SNES first, Genesis second" gamer for many many years to come (before I finally came to my senses a decade later in my 20s, and repented of this view). ;-) But even with my [at the time] pro-SNES bias firmly in place, I still thought the vastly different look, sound, vibe, and feel that the Genesis offered was super intriguing, and as such, automatically cool! But even besides the sentimental value, and "maiden voyage" significance of what is all these years later now quite possibly my favorite video game system of all time, I still like this soundtrack quite a bit on its own merits! Mojo's Future Crush is actually one of the most interesting tracks in all of FM synthesis-based gaming in terms of demonstrating FMs span of impact on sine waves. Super nerdy, I know, but to hear a plain sine singing under the awful and abrasive screeching (which, like everything else in the track, ultimately begins its life as a collection of sine waves) makes for a really interesting case study of our mutually beloved FM synth technology. Not "top 40" material, no. But still an amazing "tech trip". :-) Cheers!

That's a good adjective. I wouldn't call the music great or anything but it sort of seems self-aware of what it is (music in the background of a game). From that perspective it's well executed. Also though it doesn't sound particularly objectively good, it does sound sort of unique on the Genesis.

Track starting at @13:10 is like a weird amalgamation of stolen little bits of 80’s songs, of which I can recognize Oingo Boingo’s “Home Again” as its chorus riff and a bit of Echo & the Bunnymen’s “Silver” as the part leading into it. Intro and rest I can’t place but sound almost like *gags* Huey Lewis. Anyway, not an accusation of plagiarism as a) the way it Frankensteins together small bits from many songs is original and b) I could be way off and it’s just parallel melody making. Just thought I’d point it out for fun. This game both sucked and ruled. The squelches and farts of its mediocre and at times unlistenable OST don’t hold up, but the nostalgic melancholy they bring on excuses all that. Weirdly a classic. A painfully crunchy sounding classic.
