But a few things to be wary of: 1) Make sure the room is very dark to maximise the effect 2) Make sure the ceiling is flat, not a big chandelier 3) make sure the distance between the device and the ceiling is not too large, otherwise you lose a little clarity. I say 2-3 metres is ideal. Personally I really like the stars only, the planet's insert doesn't really look good enough for me. Also this website makes better disks than the manufacturer. They have far more stars, but note that smaller holes means dimmer stars. www.microstru.com/Homestar_Pro.html

@@johnnym6748 I wouldn't recommend too much of a slant. It will look a bit distorted because of the parallax. My guess is if it is slanted try to have it a little closer so the entire projection looks sharp. I had a friend who lived in the attic, and had a slanted roof, he actually bought 100s of tiny glow in the dark stickers and it looked great. Just an idea. It is a pretty expensive device, personally I wouldn't buy it unless I can get it near perfect. But if you have the money to spare, then why not.

Many thanks for posting this. I have been trying to decide if this would be OK for my 4 year-old grandson and you have shown way better video of the kind of detail that this unit can project than I have seen elsewhere. So I'm off to order one now. Sega should pay you commission 🙂

I’d so love the Dark-Skys projector, but they’re only shipping to the US at the moment and considering all the other stuff I’m saving for, it’s so expensive anyway. I’m strongly considering buying the flux after watching videos and reading reviews. I also appreciate how animated you were in this video. Watching someone else express their excitement really boosts my excitement levels up 😂☺️✨

I'm considering the Sega "Flux" model - the idea of relaxing at night under the stars while cozy in my old four-poster bed seems quite appealing! Does the included "Disk" have the shooting-star feature? Appreciate your review, thanks...

Yes it does, but the shooting star comes up in the same place on the roof each time, but the disk moves the graphic around so it will s a different place on the graphic

I bought flux in 2019, as I kept it in packing for long time satin black finish rubber outer coating became degraded and sticky. 😢. I have used alcohol wipes and water now the rubber cover completely gone. It was soo shiny and crisp with that cover. Is there any possibility to buy it's rubber coating cover? I tried contacting sand blaster service here in Hyderabad, India, they all have no idea about it.

It doesnt change color. Its a static image that rotates (cos the disc rotates in the device)

No, the discs are still. The projector rotates so the image spins, the disc also only shows a small portion so depending on the disc new parts of the image will rotate through. But the image on the disc is static

I would have LOVED the Ds1 but they don’t sell to Australia because they don’t have anyone to carry out warranty repairs. I haven’t tried the discs either

If you have friends overseas in US or UK you can order it their address. Get them to send it. But if it ends up with a fault it’s 1K down the drain

Does it feel like being in a planetarium?

The planetarium is a professional set up. This is a projection onto your roof. You lay on the floor and when set up correctly will cover your roof. It’s very nice and relaxing. But a planetarium with it’s multiple projectors and sound systems will always be more interactive

This was a couple of years ago. I do wonder at the state of some of my slide if maybe it was second hand when I bought it. It was in great condition. But some of the slides were scratched

If you turn it off by pulling the power, does it remember the move and shooting star setting when you plug it back in, or does it revert to those features being off? I'm thinking about getting one, but I want to be able to turn it on and off at the wall rather than on the device itself, and I'd rather not have to press buttons to turn those features on each time manually. Also, I've read reviews stating that unless it is placed in the center of the room pointing directly up, the outer edges of the image become very blurred. The only place I would be able to place it is flush against a wall on a cabinet top, so will need to be tilted. How blurred would it actually be in this scenario, to the extent of being annoying? Excellent video btw, exactly the review I was looking for! :)

Yes you will have to reset if you switch off at the wall. On a tilt from the side wall, you will have about 25% blurry.

I have are rectangle lounge and I place it top and centre on the floor. You can have a bit if an angle but it does distort if you go too much

You can turn the rotation off. But then you only see one portion of the slide

Could I use a smart plug to run the Flux with Alexa? If the power of the Flux is left on and the same plug shuts off, when the smart plug gets turned back on again, does the Flux automatically come back on?

I honestly can’t answer this. But I think leaving the projector open to dust all the time will effect the quality of the projection. My personal preference would be to keep it in the box until you use it. It automatically turns off after a period of time.

Yesit does have a fan. You can set a timer. But if you don’t it does shut off by itself. It’s longer than an hour

Simona Anghelus it’s blurry. You have to keep focusing it. I had to keep spinning it and spinning it. Took awhile but it became crystal clear. Mine is projecting on an angle because I like my full roof lit up. The further from the projection the more blurry but I promise part of it can be focused. I even had to focus it when it was moving. But now I got it perfect and don’t have to play with it anymore. I noticed when you put in the other disc you have to focus it all over again. That was a pain. Sticking with plain stars and not bothering with the constellations anymore.

Have you tried adjusting the focus? Also you may need to bring it closer to the ceiling. It may be too far from the roof to adjust the focus
