I love the overall push Sega is doing with its IPs. For me personally I always felt like their main priority was Sonic and everything else (besides Yakuza) was just there. Now they are giving light to every franchise they got and Im all for it. I cant wait for this new era of games!

I'm very happy that Sega announced some more of their IPs coming back. They've been slowly bringing them back over the late 2010s and early 2020s with _Alex Kidd,_ _Wonder Boy,_ _Super Monkey Ball,_ _Streets of Rage,_ and _Samba De Amigo._ Those revivals have been pretty solid! Now, we've got _Golden Axe,_ _Shinobi,_ _Jet Set Radio,_ and _Crazy Taxi_ coming back! They look pretty decent so far. I especially like how the _Shinobi_ footage looks, and I wouldn't be surprised if they got the _SOR 4_ devs to make it. The _JSR_ revival has some of the original developers back, and that is very exciting as well! The fact that this is apparently not all that Sega has planned makes me happy, too. I hope that IP's like _NiGHTS,_ _Gunstar Heroes,_ a new single player _Phantasy Star,_ and _Ristar_ can also return. This is all really exciting, but I hope that Sega will be careful and make these games the best they can be. It would be very unfortunate if these games release unfinished and/or are sold at a very high price.

Jet Set Radio and NiGHTS are my two IPs that I'm looking forward to getting their revivals. The bit of Jet Set we saw in the trailer looked great and makes excited for the next trailer we get for the game. NiGHTS obviously hasn't been confirmed yet but I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that it'll also be revived in the future. It's a great time to be a SEGA fan.

This announcement blew me away at the Game Awards, I can't believe they just dropped that shit lol. Shinobi looks incredible to me with its artstyle, also really looking forward to Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi! In terms of what else I'd like to see from this movement, my favorite SEGA franchises already have some recent releases between Sonic, Phantasy Star, Monkey Ball and Virtua Fighter, but my copium dreams are for Sonic Adventure remakes or a re-release or remake of the original Phantasy Star Online, which is my favorite game of all time. I'd also be interested in a new Panzer Dragoon even though I haven't played the original yet. Either way, happy to see the new energy from SEGA tapping into their depth of IPs!

Seeing SEGA dip into smaller and older franchises gives me hope ATLUS can do the same with Persona 1 and 2 along with older SMT games since most of them have been in limbo for 10-15 years, Soul Hackers 2 was somewhat of an attempt at that but it ended up failing due to it not being what people wanted along with strange decisions like adding a post release run button. Though it is nice to see them also trying new ideas to like Catherine and Metaphor.

Honestly, people should check most of the Shinobi games. There isn’t a single game series with as much of a batshit execution as those games. One game you’re rescuing hostages and fighting Buddha stages, the next game you’re going up against Godzilla, terminator, and a Spider-Man that turns into Batman. One game you’re riding on surf-boards, another game you’re using a dog to help you attack enemies, the next you’re playing a game with 5 Shinobi. One game you’re playing in a Ninja-Gaiden styled 3D action game, the next is a high action 3D game where you have an After Burner segement. There’s very little consistency across games, but they’re mostly bangers through and through.

I always believed Jet Set Radio would return and finally its real. Also i think Jet Set Radio might actually be a remake since I remember those areas from Jet Set Radio 1 and if this was technically the 3rd installment, then DJ would still have gray hair like in Jet Set Radio Future. Unless its another reboot or something, still I think Jet Set Radio maybe a remake where honestly im fine with since first the game got flaws that needs ironing out (Take notes from BRC Sega) and they need the new audience to get familiarized with the franchise so having a $40 remake would be good. Hope Future gets a remake too. As for the others, not sure about Shinobi n Golden Axe, but Street Of Rage n Crazy Taxi im sure that their new since Street of Rage is 3d n Crazy Taxi have cops now where previous games didn't. I heard rumors that Jet Set Radio n Crazy Taxi might be live service (Which could explain why Sega gave those mysterious letters to bug twitch streamers) which i definitely want online for both but plzzz no only online. If Jet Set Radio ain't a remake and its new, then they especially better not f up Jet Set Radio cuz while I want online and customization for the game, still i also bring back that wacky fun story for the game.

I think Virtua Fighter is a Super Game to be honest. VF2 was the most popular game on the Sega Saturn and the franchise has traditionally sold pretty well in the west. Also the producer was very happy with the numbers from VF5 Ultimate Showdown on ps4. Another Super Game I imagine is in development is a Phantasy Star title, perhaps one that has both a single player and multiplayer functions. But I think there’s a chance a Sonic title will also be a Super Game, and maybe even be Sonic Adventure 3. I think it’s important to note it’s not just the budget that makes it a Super Game, Sega also is focusing on the social aspect and online connectivity of some kind for each title. That’s part of what makes a Super Game for them. This is something Sonic hasn’t traditionally done.

Give me a remake to Shenmue I and II. Heck, give us a new Sega handheld. Their first major one since Nomad. We have emulation that can run every Sega console. But I want a Sega handheld to be on par to the next Switch. Then Sega can create an online store ecosystem like Nintendo and Sony have done. Sega has a huge catalog of games in their history that they can keep repainting like Nintendo has done the last 40 years. They're too much of a powerhouse to completely be gone forever. Think of all their arcade classics they can remake like Daytona USA? They're too much of a gaming juggernaut from the 80s and 90s to completely disappear on us forever.

I think this was one of the best surprises in my opinion, SEGA simply decided to bring back old franchises with a new look, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Crazy Taxi and Golden Ax will be just the beginning and I hope to see other franchises return like Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force, Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers and even Billy Heatcher, and about the idea of ​​Virtua Fighter... Obviously, as a Sonic fan, I'm psyched about Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi returning. There's so much overlap in those series' appeal it's nuts. With Naoto Oshima back in the fold, I'm also hoping NiGHTS gets some love. Balan Wonderworld may have been a confused mess of a game, but it also showed Oshima's art hasn't lost any of its luster. Always meant to get into every one of these series' too, purely out of curiosity. You don't challenge Nintendo's hold on the console market in the FUCKING 90s with JUST Sonic, people would've wanted other games on their new console then too. Definitely getting all these, and probably gonna check out the rest of the announced series' too. I've played a little of Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi, but I didn't own them, and never had time to get into the meat of things. Definitely a good opportunity to make myself a fan of these too. Specific games aside, the biggest draw to my attention was the comments on bringing back the "Dreamcast era Sega vibes". The counterculture to Nintendo's mainstream culture. That conjures some VERY specific mental imagery in my mind. The talk earlier this year about Sonic competing with Mario again, combined with that? If I wasn't sure before, I am now. We're getting something Sonic Adventure related. The best bet is remakes of 1&2, or at least A remake of SA1. The other possibility...is far more frightening. Because if THESE games, as part of this big push for SEGA IP's are all getting new installments, and an Adventure game is a distinct possibility then...they had better be on the FUCKING ball if they're even THINKING about Sonic Adventure 3. Whether that's its actual name or not. Sonic MANIA levels of on the ball, they CANNOT BE ALLOWED to fuck something like that up. And it doesn't actually have to be perfect to get it RIGHT. MANIA wasn't perfect, lots of reuse and appropriation of old ideas, a relatively underwhelming final boss (compared to its predecessors), a less ambitious story/lore scope, the sort of invisible, silent storytelling that made 3K such a masterpiece. There's lots to complain about with Mania and YET, it still goes toe to toe with 3K as the best in the series, personal preference aside, just on a technical, design, presentation level. But their approach to Frontiers actually gives me some hope either way. It was obviously unfinished and unpolished even as far as the updates went, and they were VERY transparent about that being the case, about Frontiers being something of a test run for ideas and feedback, and how much they needed the funds, staff, and dev time/resources. After Frontiers' success, it seems they'll be getting it. It seems also that SEGA as a company recognizes the gap between now and their hayday. That there's a need to tap into the energy that made them a household name in the 90s and early 2000s. Like, it's hard to overstate how big a deal this is. They committed the funds and resources to create at LEAST 5 new games in some of their most iconic legacy franchises, they brought back the original team for Jet Set Radio, and specifically name dropped Virtua Fighter in interviews. And ALL of the games they showed actually look REALLY GOOD. It's a really good sign, both for SEGA as a whole, and Sonic specifically, that they're going this far. With Sonic, if they're name dropping him at the center of this big push, it signals to me that they're about to get really serious about developing Sonic games in the future. Frontiers is what happens when a dev without the proper time or resources manages to just barely squeak out a phenomenal game. They made Frontiers IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS! Sonic since Unleashed has been relegated to budget titles. Good or not, SEGA hasn't wanted to commit the proper resources to Sonic for a long time, after the repeated failures and setbacks. Now? With Sonic winning and being nominated for awards and making record sales? Now Sonic is their golden goose again. He kind of always has been, the Sonic fanbase is pretty psychotic about him, but now, Sonic is getting those wins WITHOUT solely relying on our frankly absurd dedication to move units. People are hearing good shit about Sonic games again and they're starting to make that leap of faith. Before Frontiers, and to a lesser extent before Mania, I never saw ANYONE ask Sonic fans about what game to start with if they wanted to jump into the series. It just didn't happen, Sonic's reputation had been poisoned so thoroughly for so long that no one bothered to try, for GOOD REASON. Now? I see it like once a week. I've never seen this many people eager to jump on any kind of Sonic bandwagon. The closest I've ever gotten to seeing it was in Sonic's heyday, in the 90s and 2000s, when his reputation as Mario's rival wasn't even a question. A few years ago, when the Sonic movie was coming out, they had that big marketing push and for a fleeting moment, it felt like the 90s again. Sonic was EVERYWHERE. You couldn't ESCAPE him. Then, again, with the sequel, Sonic was dominating the cultural landscape, the biggest media thing on everyone's minds and in all the marketing. More recently, there was the leadup to Superstars and Mario Wonder's release, where again, it felt like the 90s. The 2 biggest platforming mascots of the 90s releasing inventive, high quality 2D platformers at around the same time, directly competing with each other, and the comments FROM SEGA about competing with Mario again. Now? Now it feels like the culmination of that feeling. Like premonitions of what was building in the background, a SEGA willing and able to throw their hat in the ring against Nintendo. Not in a tribalistic "Console war" marketing gimmick kind of way, but by making themselves impossible to ignore in comparison TO Nintendo. Because now, they're LITERALLY putting their money where their mouth is, and maybe holding themselves to a higher standard of quality.

it does make sense saga would return to the adventure games, they're the ones that embodied that rebelliousness they're trying to recreate. and it'd make sense if these remakes came together as the single supergame they've been talking about, since long-awaited remakes are like the one thing they can pour more money into and be assured will make it all back. its the least risky option. but what does that mean for sonic's future past that? my guess is that they'd try to learn from this old formula to inform the new direction that this new era of sonic games will take. edit: i just realized, it'd also be just in time for sonic movie 3 with shadow in it. yeah, no, all the stars are really aligning on that one

honestly would be fine with no new space channel 5, but that april leak with p3 and jsr had a 1-second shot of space so i wouldn't be Too surprised (plus wasn't there supposed to be a space channel 5 movie in the works 😭) the moment i heard jet set radio was coming back i LOST IT. as a relative newcomer to the sega gallery of games i'm excited to get into all these refreshed franchises hehehe
