I played this game for what must have been an hour at Toys R Us while my mom and sister wandered through the toy aisles, and it's the game that made me change my mind about the Saturn. After playing this, I started paying more attention to Saturn previews and reviews, and I realized it was the system with the most games that I wanted to play. The Saturn had the best 1996 of any console, and I will fight to the death anyone who argues that point. Alongside NiGHTS, this game was one of the flagship titles of that year's Saturn lineup.

I remember first seeing panzer2 on demo. It was the forest level... that huge boss running next to and around you and the way it moved made my jaw drop. As a teenager always being ripped for not gettin a playstation - this (and vf2) was my goto game to show those laughing who ended up not laughing anymore... level 4 with the water and fish also gave me shivers. I used to be a swimmer back then and actually was on way to take part in the Olympics if i pushed on (unfortunately i hit the wall and just didn't improve...i digress) - but the sound of that, the darkness, the transparencie of the fish in the water... it really gave me a sense of careful not to drown....that lift as well. Omg im just remembering this; then the level after in the snow that i remember actually made me feel cold... no other game even to this day has had that effect... i don't know what it was and stupidly im shedding a tear as i really suddenly miss this... (as stated had to sell my collection and i cant emulate this yet....one day ) ~this game had such an impact, even the stupid intro where he couldn't get rid of the kureat (dragon) because lagi 'had a pair of wings...' - at this moment im having serious depression; but sega lord x talking of this amazing game had such an effect on me....thanx dude

Panzer Dragoon 2 & Titanfall 2 are two of the most criminally underrated videogames of all time.
@rickylovesyou4 жыл бұрын
Using the word "underrated" is criminally overrated. All the kids need to do is do some light research before posting ignorant comments tbh. PDZ2 has a cult following amongst the saturn community in general as well as the gaming community at large.. Panzer Dragoon II Zwei received generally positive reviews. The four reviewers of Electronic Gaming Monthly applauded the game for its multiple routes, differing dragon transformations, and "some of the best graphics ever seen on Sega's 32-bit powerhouse". GamePro asserted that Panzer Dragoon II Zwei "blows away anything resembling a shooter on the PlayStation thus far, in both graphics and imagination." He also complimented the way the music reflects what is going on in the game. A reviewer for Next Generation summarized, "In a surprising victory for art and plot direction, Panzer Dragoon II Zwei proves that visual sophistication and compelling storylines can overcome less than revolutionary gameplay." Rob Allsetter of Sega Saturn Magazine praised the impressive attention to detail in the graphics and the multiple routes. He concluded that it "belongs up there with VF2 and Sega Rally as the standard-bearer for its genre." Maximum's Daniel Jevons concurred with Scary Larry that the game "positively laughs in the face of any competing PlayStation 3D shooters." He pointed out that the much-maligned on-rails format is necessary to create the experience the game offers, noting as an example that it allowed the developers to synchronize the soundtrack with what is going on. He also praised the animation, 3D graphics, high frame rate, absence of pixelation even on the heavily detailed bosses, precise controls, lock-on attacks, and the ability to adjust the game's difficulty by choosing different routes. Panzer Dragon Zwei was a runner-up for Electronic Gaming Monthly's Shooter Game of the Year. The following year they ranked it number 90 on their "100 Best Games of All Time". IGN staff writer Levi Buchanan ranked Panzer Dragoon II Zwei fifth in his list of the top 10 Sega Saturn games, saying "The original Panzer Dragoon that flanked the Saturn at launch was nothing short of revelation. But this sequel improves on almost everything, offering better graphics, smoother animations, changing dragon forms, and branching routes." GameRankings 87.50% EGM 8.25/10 Next Generation 4/5 Entertainment Weekly A Maximum 5/5 Sega Saturn Magazine 95% The IP had 4 titles to its name including an RPG, spawned countless clones of the genre (cowboy bebop and omega boost for the ps1, crimson dragon, planet harriers to name a very few for example) and is in remaster/remake talks for current gen.... hardly the stuff of "underrated" 🤦🏻♂️

@@rickylovesyou yes, yes but the average gamer at the time of panzer draggon 2 zwei overlooked it and the poor sales of the saturn and everyone wanting a PlayStation, nobody new about it and only the diehard users of the saturn new about it so it was overlooked and underrated as a good game by the gaming community. Not everybody reads reviews and indepth info.
@misterkeebler4 жыл бұрын
@@retrostansolo yeah I think overlooked at the time is a better way to put it. I definitely wouldnt call it underrated because people that have not played a game and/or are not familiar with it are not in a position to rate it imo. Bought Panzer Dragoon 2 on release and i've *still* not played anything that has a look, feel, sound or general atmosphere quite like it. It's an utterly unique masterpiece. Yet it's nearly always the first PD game or PD Saga that get attention, especially on KZbin (so it's nice to see this vid), but PD2 is better than the first game in literally _every_ single way and it's the best shooter on the system. Possibly the best game on Saturn. Top 3 at least. The same goes for the graphics/sound. The music alone is iconic and the best of the series. It also runs so smooth i could swear it's 60fps when playing it, even though it's actually 30. I was SO disappointed when i first see screenshots of Saga because it wasn't a new Panzer Dragoon 3 with the same type of gameplay (Saga's still a great game in its own way though). But just imagine what a PD3 could have been on the even further improved engine that Saga used.

My second favorite game on the Saturn, only behind Guardian Heroes. Everything about it blew my mind back when it came out. It was like the first game all over again, but so much better. And that soundtrack is fantastic. One of the oldest game music CDs I had in my collection. In a pre-KZbin 2005, I shelled out a good $80 for it, and it was worth it. I still listen to it to this day, and I hope the remake captures even half of the excitement I felt when this came out so many years ago.

@TheSeventhForce the only thing I don't like about a lot of the Sega digital series are (esp with Guardian Heroes on the 360) no attract screen. It doesn't open like the CD did. You don't turn it on and the opening cinema doesn't just grab you with that awesome opening. You have a static screen and menu. And have to search in the options just to see the original opening full screen or not. It just away from much of the game in my opinion. And the menu doesn't go anywhere... it plays the title screen music but that's it. It sits there until you DO something... and that irks me to no end.

I loved this game back in the day and it truly was a memorable experience. Be sure you do an update to your review of the first remake after the patch drops. They say it will significantly improve the game; starting with a 60fps performance increased, new animations for the dragon and more responsive controls.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Its time for a PANZER DRAGOON resurrection.👊💥✌

I'm sad I never had a chance to play this when I was younger. I know I would've absolutely loved it
