@@Zahir658 true however the saturn apparently was a tough system to programme for to begin with. Hence they were many game ports the playstatiom received but developers just didn't bother with the saturn. Only in the last few years the true power amd potential of the saturn was realised. My first game on the saturn was yhe resident evil. Amd man ... it still stuck with me till this day in my mid 30s 😄

Oh, man. This looks great! I know it is exclusively a Genesis release, but I just wish there had been an eShop release. I'm glad this project turned out well. It looks like Mega Man meets Contra Hard Corps!

Yeah. I'm totally for new Genesis releases, but it's obviously a limited market, and also being ported the the eShop and Windows/Steam would likely be beneficial to both the makers and potential buyers. (Update: I went to their Kickstarter page, and it looks like a Steam version is a stretch goal. It looks like at least that will happen.)

Pretty cool to see a Genesis-style game. Everyone always goes SNES or NES when going retro, but there's something to that grunchy, overly-techno Genesis sound that's amazing. I also like how the standing pose and animation are similar to Zero from MegaMan X4

Gems indeed, seeing these kind of releases are few and far between, to bring attention and recognition to the efforts of these indie developers that are developing such sparse and unprofitable journeys is worth merit. i respect Sega lord Xs expertise and experience in such matters, but with such big releases such as this, we should expect more than a 11 min review.

Man I f*cking love after market Mega Drive games. I also like that the devs listen to feedback. When the Retro Gamer Boy critiqed that the game has no safefeature or password system the dev commentet that in the final release they will add a password system.

For the time being the one game I'm truly interested in seeing brought to life for the Genesis is a port of Castlevania Symphony of the Night that's currently being developed. Seeing the progress that's being made, it's quite remarkable how well they're utilizing the Genesis and staying close to the original look of the game.

The older I get the more I appreciate things like the normal mode on this game where you get infinite lives. Mega Man 11 on the Switch is the same. I no longer care or have time to play levels over and over because of cheap deaths. I just want to sit down and relax with a fun game for a while.

My problem with the graphics is a lot of it looks 'automated' which is understandable to get everything finished in a timely manner, but it has the side effect of bad color mashes (such as the skull screen) and also there's some stages that seem to not have a focus on being readable to the player by using properly contrasting colors to depict what is in the foreground and what is in the background, but this plagues many older titles as well. That said, I really love the effects they put into the game and the gravity flipping looks a lot like they are paying homage to Metal Storm, one of the great lookers (and players!) on the NES. I wouldn't mind having this game in my collection despite my issues with some of the graphical elements. It looks really fun!

Great video and nice looking game, when you went to the sound test the music reminded me of Contra Hard Corps or worse, The Adventures Of Batman And Robin. Nice to know it's free to play via emulation. Keep up the good work Mel you're the best on the tube!

I have a request, have you ever reviewed Virtual On OT for Dreamcast? It's an awesome and influential game (the popular Gundam Extreme VS is based on the VO formula), and it's very likely the best Sega arcade port on the console, better than the original Model 3 game (there was a Naomi release based on the DC port)

@@arnauddemarais9104 it is easier to program than the snes. Thanks for newer software technology, homebrewers and hackers can push the genesis to its limits. During 1994, developers will have to use enhancement chips including ram to achieve games likes this and other modern genesis titles.

@@arnauddemarais9104 right, modern genesis graphics look like they're using 12-bit color pallete instead of a 9-bit. Proof the genesis did not need another add-on in 1994. The day everdrive and a mega sd 32x cart ever happens (where you can access 32x vdp and framebuffer to enhance sega cd and genesis with its color hack patch). It is game over for the snes in homebrewing unless they create support the cancelled snes cd or st018 enhancement chip which includes armv3 cpu.

They should keep creating genesis indie games and pile them up including msu-md version and scaler games to the genesis. Great review and hopefully we will also see more 2D games on the Saturn and dreamcast. Hopefully 2D indie developers will create 5th gen inspired 2D games specially pixel arts during that era.

This is the 3rd review I've seen today for this game and the 3rd billboard made specifically for that reviewer. I wonder if that's a bit of sucking up because I saw a comment call out the lead developer for physically threatening people who were not kind to the game including personal calls to their house and making YT copyright complaints on negative reviews to try and get them taken down. Don't know if any of that is true but if it is, it's hard to get behind developers who think that is remotely ok.

As much as I love numerous things that we have now I definitely loved that time. Yeah it was simpler and yes it was better in a lot of ways. It's just one of those things you have to let go of as you get older. But I am always glad to have a little moment when I'm playing one of these retro style games where my mind goes back to that time.

Your logo looks the best of all the ones they've included in the game, heh. The game looks all right. There's something about the artwork that feels off to me, though. The knight looks kind of chubby and boxy, like the artists did everything they could to fill as much of his sprite box as possible.

The game is good. It doesn't push itself to greatness like Demons of Asteborg manages, but it gets there for about a third or half of the game.
