Episode Notes:
1. The King of Route 66 is the PS2 version. It isn't nearly as pretty as the arcade. The image is blurrier, the draw distance worse, and the framerate not as smooth. Still playable though.
2. Virtua Cop 2 is captured from the Model 2 emulator Nebula. The arcade version runs better.
3. Virtua Fighter 2 is captured from the Xbox 360 version.
4. Shenmue is a combination of the Xbox based movie during the monologue, and the Dreamcast for the send off.
5. The Virtua Racing segment is from the Sega Ages Switch version.
6. Since Fighters Megamix has never been released on anything else, that was from the Sega Saturn.
7. Scud Race section was captured using the SuperModel emulator. I've never gotten the analog control right in it, so the gameplay shown is kinda crappy.
8. The Daytona footage is a combination of the Xbox 360 version for the first, and the SuperModel emulator for the second.
9. Virtua Fighter 4 is captured straight from the PS2 version.
10. Outrun 2 is from the Xbox 360 version. It's the prettiest of the console versions.

Check out the description for info of which version is running in each segment! I tried to use real hardware where possible, or at least a port of it. Some games have no version other than the arcade, however.

I totally agree with your number 1! For my experience , I've enjoyed a lot the first two chapters of Virtua Striker in the old arcade times. The idea of making a video about AM2 has been a great thing! AM2 released some of my favourite arcade games of all times: I've also created a tune for an upcoming italian channel dedicated to arcade games, which will be released soon, and a huge inspiration for it came from my memories about AM2 arcade games. That says all about my experience and love for them.

Man, when I got Shenmue it absolutely blew me and my friends away. The level of being able to interact with so many things in the world, the day/night cycle and how all the citizens had a routine, the story, the graphics... I remember reading in the Dreamcast magazine that there were 8 games planned which seemed unbelievable, but I was pumped. We all know how that turned out.

This was a good one. The decision not to port Daytona 2 to anything was a baffling one. It's hard to imagine a 1st party in dire straits just letting a sequel to one of their biggest properties just languishing like that. Scud Racer has always seemed like it would have been another slam dunk. I had forgotten until seeing this, but that 18 Wheeler cab with the big horizontal steering wheel was everywhere back in the day. One of many, many, Sega titles which would have had an automatic sequel at most other publishers.

My top 10: 1.) Virtua Fighter 2 -- yes, newer VF games are better in every way, but my heart remains with VF2 2.) Shenmue II -- Fantastic game through and through! 3.) Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution -- Spents countless hours with it on PS2 and loved the hell out of it. 4.) Daytona USA -- DAYYYTONNNNA! LET'S GO AWAY! 5.) Fighters Megamix -- Shouldn't work, but it does. 6.) Virtua Cop 2 -- So many dollars spent at arcades playing this game. 7.) Outrun 2 -- Just so smooth to play in every way. Drifting feels like butter in that game. 8.) Shenmue -- A one of a kind masterpiece. 9.) Space Harrier -- A Yu Suzuki classic. But I'm not sure if its technically AM2 or before AM2? 10.) Hang On -- Another Yu Suzuki classic.

Virtua Cop 2's Saturn port is a miracle on par with Sega Rally. I wish light gun games worked on flat screens (without major hassle) as that's the one old game I'd like to play again that I can't easily. I did set up a Wii remote for use with emulators but it's weirdly complicated and unreliable. Maybe that has changed but i gave up in frustration. As for OutRun 2. I can find one flaw, it's too easy. Even on highest difficulty oyf you're familiar with the game at all you will successfully complete a route. If you get into trying to better your times then there's no problem, but I never did. At least it isn't too hard like OutRunners which I've never completed!

I agree with Outrun 2 at number 1. Only played it a few times in the arcade but had the XBOX version and later the PC version of Coast to Coast. Immensely playable. What I really loved was playing the PC version in 3D on my 3DTV. It was like this game was made for 3D and made a tangible difference to gameplay. Since Nvidia removed support for 3D vision I haven't been able to play and going back to the 2D version has left me feeling flat, so to speak. The 3D really enhanced this game. I still play it on my original XBOX though since it feels right since it never had a 3D version. But the PC version just feels wrong in 2D these days. I miss it.

If Sega ever released a Naomi 2 arcade collection on consoles, I would pay a ton of money to get it. Hardly any of the games were released outside the arcade, and the ones that did release as console ports were all significantly inferior. They would still look good today too as the Naomi 2 was the next evolution of the Dreamcast. Heck, Sega should throw in the Hikaru arcade releases as well, none of which ever saw home releases.

AM2 was alot like Rare during the 90's - straight quality everytime. When you make a game of such strong quality, even if it just a semi driving game, they turn out good. On a side note - I'm starting to believe that 91-2004 ish was the golden age of video games. The quality and innovation during this time produced the lions share of the greatest game ever made.

I think Sega could have given the Dreamcast a shot in the arm by making VF4 a Dreamcast exclusive - released there and not in arcades, at least for a time. I know that would have sounded unthinkable at the time, but it would have been a really solid reason to invest in a DC in Japan, as opposed to a PS2. As you say in your video about the success of the Saturn in Japan, that was almost entirely due to VF2.

Outrun 2 was actually never released on the Xbox 360 and ps3. The only version released for the consoles was “Outrun Online Arcade” which “yes” is a version of outrun two. But with some features added and some removed. The game was removed from stores a few years after its release due to licensing issues with Ferrari. However you could actually play Outrun 2 via backwards compatibility on the earlier versions of the 360. I believe Xbox 360’s manufactured after like 2009 or 2010 weren’t able to play certain or all original Xbox games.

As much as I love Shenmue and it pains me to say this...that's what happens when you give someone a blank cheque to make a game and that game can't possibly recoup that money spent on it. Pains me to say that as I do love Shenmue but yeah, that's the sad story of Yu Suzuki's final days at SEGA. As much as I love Shenmue, it really was the final nail in the coffin for the company in many regards and things were never the same for SEGA after that. Once that game came and failed to catch on, it was clear SEGA were pulling the purse strings tighter and it's clear they lost faith in Yu a little bit.

It always blown me away that in the arcade, SEGA killed the 3D revolution. At home, they got killed by the same 3D transition.

Nah, Sega screwed themselves from the inside and us Sega fans got hurt the worst. If the company was run better they would’ve...should’ve been top tier. They ran the arcade industry and hand somewhat of a foot hold in the console market aaaaand they fucked that up

My thought in saying that was not 100% graphical but also gameplay as well. And while one or two SEGA games kicked but at the time, there were soooooo many swings and misses. Too many rushed titles and games pushed out to simply push out games. Trust me, the early 90's, i actually got tears in my eyes by the outstanding line up. And I bought in to all from that point forward until 2000. The Dreamcast have me hope again for SEGA but then they killed it and I haven't "forgiven" them since. To top it off looking back (I would have never admitted at the time) Nintendo and Sony wiped the floor with SEGA

@Brian Babin Namco killed them on the playstation. Tekken 3 sold 8 million copies vs Saturn's best selling game Virtual Fighter 2 at 2.2 mil.
