As a Frenchman, I don't see the problem of adapting the song at all, in both cases the story is heartbreakingly sad and it seems logical that the German song is from the German point of view. I sincerely hope that the Franco-German friendship will continue and that our two high European cultures will never be enemies again, in any case thanks for the song. But of course I would really enjoy if you do a German version with the French text.
@sergeantsharkseant
@sergeantsharkseant 2 жыл бұрын
I mean adopting other nations songs with one’s own text is rather common the French also adopted die wacht am Rhein with a french text. The German french friendship is very important sadly our current politicians value Russian money and adhering to twisted ideologies higher then our cooperation. I personally have only the dream in my heart of a different history still in friendship and peace but with all of our countrymen United. A dream in which people weren’t forced to change their identity or forced to leave their homes a world where true peace and freedom was archieved instead of revengeful treaties and hatred. The German French conflict was a conflict between brotherly nations

I notice one difference: in the French version, when the mother answers her daughter, she speaks about how atrocious the war being fought is, and how she loathes it. But in here, the Mother tells her child to join her in prayer for victory. Both are fitting, but I would have preferred for the version in my language to speak about the mourning family and praying for victory.

La difference, des paroles, effectivement nous montre la difference des valeurs des ces deux pays de la 19eme siecle. I don't know what your problem is. The ballad is written from the point of view of an Alsatian-German whose father fought and died for the German Empire. Alsace-Lorraine used to belong to Germany and the men were probably drafted into the German army. France and Germany were still archenemies at the time. That was a different time. Today, you can no longer imagine it, but songs were simply adapted.

This was a controversial choice, and I see why others disapprove of this adaptation, but I think I'm okay with it, because I think it demonstrates that the Franco-Prussian war ended up causing a cycle of violence that lasted 75 years and ended up affecting people on both sides in similar ways. Something like what's described in this adaptation definitely did happen at some point in the aftermath of WWI, the same way something like what's described in the original version definitely did happen in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian war.

I think this girl is a New Alsatian, her parents emigrated to this region after 1871. She mentioned carnival, so her parents are probably from the Rhineland. After 1871, a large number of Rhinelander teachers emigrated to Alsace-Lorraine to teach, to teach the kids love and worship the mighty Prussian kings, to teach the kids to admire the glorious Prussian military exploits.

Why did you switch sides? "La Strasbourgeoise" is a French song, composed after the defeat of France in 1870. It's an extremely sad song, recalling the tragic Franco-Prussian war which should never have existed. The Germans and the French were never to be enemies, they are not, because they are actually brother peoples, from the Carolingian Empire. We must ask ourselves who served these conflicts.

It seems that the original version really got under some people's skin, so they have to make a German version about it, even though Strasbourg was not under siege during WWI. Words and music are sometimes more powerful than the sword. For example, All quiet on the western front is more powerful than all the Prussian guns. That book will ensure Germany remains a republic forever.

Hi, the music is pretty good as always but I'm not going to lie to you I feel like the changed lyrics are a little bit disrespectful to the original song. You are kind of alienating Alsatians to their own country here (France). When Alsace-Lorraine became German after the Franco Prussian war, the germans were seen as the oppressors not the french ! My great great grandfather was living in Alsace Lorraine before WWI when it was German, but when the great war broke out, he joined France's side. I don't know how people feel in Alsace, but here nowaday in Lorraine, of course most people respect German culture and have some appeal to it but they definitely identify themselves as french.
