THank you for posting these videos. I am just starting my own snare and these clips are helping tremendously.

Hello Murray, first of all I want to congratulate you on the excellent work done by your hands. You're very good at what you do. I'm from Brazil, and sorry for the bad English rs. I do not speak or type very well but I hope you understand me. I would like to know the width of the wood you use to make the cuts in segments. If you could talk to me in centimeters, I'm grateful, because here in Brazil we do not use the inch. I really want to manufacture all my battery but I would need to know the measurements of the woods so that I can buy them in the exact sizes so I will not have a problem later on having to level them. I intend to make a drum with bass drum 20x18, floor tone of 14x13 and 16x 15, tones 8x6, 10x6,5, 12x7 snare drums 14x7 and 13x7. help me please

LOL I have done this to make cawls for doing curved radiuses (laminates), but until I saw this video never made the mental connection to make segments using this method....why didnt I think of it before?!

Do you have any plans for the jig?

Hey dude! Smart thinking!!! Quick question...how do you determine, A- the angle? And B- the length of each piece? In other words, how did you determine the lines on the segments? Thanks!!!!!!!!!

To get the angle, divide 180 by the number of segments in the ring. So for a ring with 10 segments, the angle should be 18 degrees. To get the length, take the sin of that angle, and multiply that by the diameter of the ring you want to make, so for a 14" drum with 10 segments per ring, the sum would be sin18 x 14, which is 0.309017 x 14 = 4.33" (109.9 mm) If you would rather work with straight segments you can use the same method, but you would use tan18 x 14, which is 0.324920 x 14 = 4.55" (115.5 mm) Or you could use an online stave calculator. I sometimes use this one: www.woodturnersresource.com/extras/projects/segmentcalc/index.html
