The 2017 Winter Steam Festival was dampened by warm weather that meant very little snow, but the Jupiter performed marvelously. Since I was volunteering for part of the event I was allowed a ride in the tender.

Are these Winter Steam events done annually? I looked over their website and could not find an event this winter, though I may have overlooked it.

Very nice. I had the honor of seeing Jupiter and #119 four years ago (though not in winter) when the site was much more crowded than usual. I've also done a little bit of research on the Transcontinental Railroad (my profile picture likely indicates that I'm a railroad nut), and found out that Jupiter was primarily used for light passenger service.

Sure is pretty, but the shrill whistle hurts my ears!

That's a Baldwin hooter (single chime) for ya. Most locomotives of this type had a hooter whistle back then. Eureka and Glenbrook have hooters as well but they're not as loud iirc.
