I love this intro theme song. I believe it was sung by MIO, who also did a few songs for the soundtracks for Area 88, and L-Gaim. I remember this series as Saber Rider as it was called in America. Though, I'm pretty sure the Americanized version of this show was heavily edited. Because the Japanese versions are usually darker than the Americanized versions of these anime shows.

I grew up listening to the Saber Rider & The Star Sheriffs song and show. It's a fantastic soundtrack with a lot of electric guitars and being from the 80's, it's naturally up my valley. This version, the JP one, is great in it's own way. It's a typical 80-90's sounding song and the band is called MIO who are also well-known amongst us Mecha-enthusiasts for having made the song _THE WINNER_ and _BACK TO PARADISE_ as well as _MEN OF DESTINY_ and _OBLIVION_ and more,in other words, many songs to the Gundam series, great fantastic songs. Like _Back to Paradise_ that plays during Ep 1 of Gundam 0083 during the training montage between the High Powered GM and a couple of Zaku's, bringing images to ones mind of Top Gun ( _the series have been stated numerous of times of being inspired by Top Gun so yeah_ ). So arguing " _Western version was better!_ " vs " _No! Japanese was!_ " in this case is a pretty... silly thing to do? It's the same with RoboTech. It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

While this got passed off as a "western" as SABER RIDER, it's actually supposed to be a French musketeer-themed superhero/robot anime! (Only the American member of Bismarck is a cowboy.) Remember, the scientist who organized the team, and his engineer daughter (the Japanese hero's love interest) are French.
@bigwhiteshogun5 жыл бұрын
it's a mix of many things really. There are many episodes that are western inspired more than anything, there are some that are musketeer_themed, though as far as I can tell the western themed ones are more common. Mines of silver, the fever of gold, old bounty hunter dressed like a cowboy, and his son in a poncho, saloons and saloon brawls, the herd of stallions, and a shaman with banjo and so on and on. There are more examples like that in the show.
@johnsmoke17855 жыл бұрын
@@bigwhiteshogun the American version has some extra cowboy episodes for that. Notice the extra lip gloss for April in those episodes.
@Leadblast3 жыл бұрын
Mind you the Bismark is also cowboy-themed. This WAS a "Space Western" anime, its just that the American adaptation emphasized it further.
@ななお-y4y4 ай бұрын
@@Leadblast "JYUSHI" means "musketeer." Thinking about it that way, it may have some elements of "The Three Musketeers." In this version, it is depicted as a "battle against alien invaders." Humanity has migrated to the stars, but aliens are invading them. The setting is that these people can take on bodies that are identical to those of humans.

Why, what do you mean? is it because in the American adaptation he does not get the girl in the end?
@spacejockey92233 жыл бұрын
This was basically a Sentai anime. The leader was obviously the red dude and Saber Rider was originally the typical blue/black ranger aka the team's #2. Because he was the blonde guy and he rode a horse, the American adaptation made him the primary protagonist while he most certainly wasn't.
@RockyHoward3 жыл бұрын
@@spacejockey9223 not because he was blonde, but because he looked more distinguished. rides a horse, uses a captain cap and has an officer's suit with epaulettes. i don't know why they made him the second in the Japan version, character design is wrong for that role. Plus Fireball acts like the typical hot headed noob. BTW, Saber is older than Fireball, so it makes sense he's the senior of the group.
@spacejockey92233 жыл бұрын
@@RockyHoward the Japanese version is the source material and in these Sentai or Sentai-like shows they often do it that way. There are a lot of Reds who are brash, hotheaded or even childish, while the #2 of the team - Black/Blue/Green etc - is the much cooler one. A particularly notorious example of this is Jetman.
@RockyHoward3 жыл бұрын
@@spacejockey9223 yeah, i know, but that the Saber Rider character design implies he's the leading officer, yet he's not. Should have designed him another way. That's why the American version decided to make him the leader. Well, they also made up a whole military organization while in the Japanese version it's a small team of 4.

@cnh2132 That's what I thought as well. Becuase the same is true of Voltron and other anime cartoons that were watered down upon being brought over to the US. In both of the series which were Americanized into the two seperate Voltron series, (Golion and Dairugger XV) there was plenty of gruesome violence along with numerous character deaths that were edited out. And most American fans didn't know about this until years later.

Leon Angelo They´ve changed a lot of the original content for the US and european Versions.In the original, Fireball (the japanese) is the main character. The japanese version handles things like death way more adult than the pretty censored international TV-Show "Saber Rider and the Star Sherriffs". It actually shows people dying and was way more violent. But the international versions theme and intro are way better than the original...i still love it after more than 20 years ;)

I have never seen the original version but upon my recent viewings of American one years later; it felt off when visuals and dialogue at times did not match, or that dialogue was so tacky it only made sense that they are forcing serious tone out of it. At that time I was only aware of it being dubbed from Japanese version. It led to me to dig deeper and finding out just how better original is, save for the music; American version is lot more catchier and cool. Still American version is one of the better cartoons/anime to come out on American television for the time, it wasn't as childish as its peers.

This show was badly dubbed and over simplified to appease american sensosr at the time the original is on the same level as Saint Seiya when it comes to animation, characters and even the reality and brutailty of the story, Americans ruined this show like pretty much any show of the 80's, (exception perhaps to Voltron)
