Good day Sir, I have this very same watch that I bought new in 1978. The list price in 1978 was 299.99. It still works to this day and I wear it from time to time. Thanks for reminding me how the functions work.

I'm not sure if the G in the model number stands for Gold. I have a stainless steel one from new, that and others I've seen have the G in the model number. I'm still interested to know what the G stands for.

I think the Seiko A159 range, along with the Casiotron range are the pinnacles of first generation LCD watches design. I love how both ranges have truncated the left most digit to give the readout a more balanced and centred look. I have been collection 70's digitals for a while now and have several A159's and Casiotron X1's. Actually have always wondered why are there so many mint condition X1's on eBay?, especially without the correct bands?. I have 5 (when I see one on eBay in NOS condition for under $100 I just can't help myself LOL) and only one came with an original band. You also may want to buy a genuine battery opener tool in case the coins in your currency are not a good fit for the battery hatch. I have one watch where the hatch is so worn the coin just slips off. I didn't know that they existed and have ordered one and waiting for it to arrive. ebay.com.au/itm/264962551504
