They have officially lost it. Citizen has taken the place of Seiko. Citizen now has ISO rated diver with pvd coating and sapphire that's cheaper than Seiko 5 crap. Edit: For reference, I look at EU eBay prices, right now Seiko SRPD black pvd diver is only a bit cheaper(220-250Euros) than Citizen NY0145 pvd diver. These are two models I was considering for price point.

I like it. It’s something different. Seiko has so many prospex watches that are extremely similar. All you are doing in a lot of instances with the rest of their catalogue is buying the model within their range that fits your budget. On a low budget buy a Seiko 5 dive style watch, on less of a budget maybe look at a Shogun or a Willard. But overall the design language and colour ways are quite similar. This is something different. I think that’s a good thing, if there are things you don’t like about it and would change I would bet those changes turn it into a watch Seiko already does so buy that one instead.

This one's "interesting"...but so is the SBDY085 (JDM) Mini Turtle I picked up a month ago, new, for considerably less cash. I'll also add that the truly interesting 6R movements reside in the 6R2x series: the 6R27 movement in my Presage SARW025 (Laurel tribute) is both higher-beat (28,800vph), and rock-solid from my timegrapher's perspective.

I have the Seiko SRP043 which was called the Spork. It is almost 15 years old. The Spork has the exact same bracelet. The bracelet still performs like it was new.

it is not exact same bracelet but very similar, many Seiko's have this type , I have more than 50 Seiko divers and Spork on my wrist now, and this bracelet is more like mm200 or even turtle looks like, Spork has wider middle section, but yes all looks similar and doing ok with time, cheers

I love your attention to detail when it comes to the movements because that's something that's missing in most watch reviews, I just wish you did more Citizen/Miyota watches. I'm looking to buy my first mechanic watch and after digging into it all I learned of the issues and options that Seiko can have but somehow no one really talks (or mods) Citizen/Miyota watches. I'm mostly interested in the 9000 series movements (I'm ogling the NB1050-59 right now), would you have any insight on how those perform?

The 9000 series movements is an excellent platform and architecture... It is the base used by LJP G100 as a high grade swiss movement. The miyotas come from factory at an average of +10s a day.

Agree totally about the 6L movement series. Have not met a 6L35 and 6L37 I didn’t absolutely appreciate and if you’re dropping over a grand why bother with a 6R? Pay more and you should get more.

I would have liked the bezel to be a little slimmer or the dials opening to be a litte large. Unlike you, I dislike the polished mid links. But all in all, the watch isn't too bad. Maybe it takes some getting used to. If we're honest, watches with a 3 o'clock crown are more pleasing to the eye than watches with 4 o'clock crowns.

Man, I've been out of Seiko divers since the X but check back every so often... Can't say I like it, but that's because it's completely different to any other Seiko diver! But I see what they're doing and that is interesting. It's much more Swiss looking and provides the entry tier for people wanting an Omega SMP on a budget (the AquaRacer sits between them). The Gran Seiko Evo divers provide the top tier for this wave dial, sculpted case look. I'd guess we'll see a higher tier (6L or 8L) Seiko using the same design cues soon. RIP Marinemaster...

Not my favourite look for a Seiko, but it looks really awesome on the rubber strap. I much prefer my grey Willard SPB237J1. I have many 6R movements that are immensely accurate on the wrist, and as cheap as chips to service. My local AD, the venerable Hisao Yokota here in North Vancouver, makes these run like a Rolex. As you said, just don’t put it on a timegrapher, but would one unless you have a watch channel?

I don't hate it but I don't really like it either. The bronze bezel reminds me of the current version Shogun. I'm definitely not a fan of the high polished upper case. There's just too many different things going on for me. It just looks too odd.

It looks gorgeous. But do you know what I think would make it even better. A black casing. An all black casing and strap would make that light "bronze" bezels pop even more. The pricing though. Is a little too much in my opinion. They have been marking up the price so much lately. Back then, Seiko Divers are below $1000. This should be $500-$700 at most. With mediocre movement and finish on the watch(you can literally see the specs of dust all over that black watch dial), the price should seriously be cut in half for people to even consider it. Seriously, if you can't even keep the watch dust free on the inside, you don't have the rights to ask more than a $1000 for a watch. I bet there are people who would get the typical Seiko problem out the box on this one too. The typical misalignments problem. Bezels, inserts and more. If Seiko is going to keep the same level of quality on their mass produced watches. Then they should keep the same level of pricing on them.

Agree with the bad quality of the movements , No watch has less accuracy and I cant stand this. While my Seiko Monster and Tuna works very well with the 4R36 Movement. Not sure why people talk about Seiko movement so high. These are either bad movements or just lazy regulated. For a watch above 1000 Euros its unbearable and you get watches with great solid and accurate Swiss calibers for the same amount

Hard pass for me. This watch and "Shog-urai" both feel really uninspired. The microbrand divers in the $500-1000 range have now far surpassed Seiko on specifications and bracelet quality, and the case finishing on many of them is at least close, if not directly comparable. A Wise Adamascus AD8 is half the price, uses a 4Hz Miyota 9015, 904L steel, a ceramic insert, and has a high quality toolless microadjust clasp. The only real reason to still buy Seiko at this point is design, and if they can't even deliver on that, then there's no reason to buy at all.

Seiko is gradually getting worse and worse. I fear all Japanese brands are heading in this direction. Even the Walmart Casios are worse than before. While they're focusing on their higher end clientele, all of their affordable options cut corners anyway they can.
