Went and compared them both on my wrist, my God the mm300 was big! I get it, it's a tool for a real diver, maybe nothing compares to it when getting the job done. It's clean, simple (genial design) and the depth of the dial is amazing. Left the store with the mm200, because I'm a farmer and it is a gorgeous watch nonetheless. Also, the accuracy is very good, after 1 month it's been loosing just 5 sec a day

I only recently started my Seiko obsession. I have a few 4r movements and figured a 6r was next and then an 8l. So last wk I was thinking about getting a MM200 SPB 185 or 187 for around $1300(not in the US) but instead went for a SPB079 MM200 for $400 new which has pretty much the same running gear though a lower power reserve but much longer lasting lume. To me it represented much better value and can scratch that 6r itch. Then I'll make plans for the MM300 which is a bit special and will be my final Seiko piece. However if I decide to pass on it then the 079 will probaby be my last Seiko. I'm very pleased with it's performance just +8secs in one wk and got lucky with alignment this time. Useful relevent info FT as usual...thank you.

Good plan I have both the spb051 and the spb207, and the older generation spb051 does have better lume and better finishing on the indices and crystal. I use it for diving and it hasn't skipped a beat. I've also found my 6R15 is also more accurate than its 6r35 counterparts in my collection. Good value with the last gen seiko divers.

For around 1k usd, I was expecting the bezel action of the mm200 to be better than cheaper prospex models. Unfortunately, it had a lot of play and I even had difficulty in aligning it to its original 12 o clock position. That said, finishing is superb, and it does fit perfectly on a 6.5-7 inch wrist. I can't say it justifies the price, but may still consider in adding to my collection LOL

I like the size of the reduced and even like that the movement is more assessable, but after looking at the Reduced in person and owning the SLA021 and taking it on many dives, the quality is really reflected in the difference in price. My first video ever was a review on the Seiko SLA021! A second note on the MarineMaster300 is that although over watch is bigger, with the thicker bezel, the was face itself is smaller making the watch actually appear smaller than the Reduced!

I had the original MM300. At US 1800, it was a steal.. but now Seiko add an X logo, ceramic, sapphire and charges US 2800. IMHO, the watch now lost much of its competitive advantages, as it is now being cross-shopped with the likes of Tudor Black Bay, which is well regulated chronometer certified, has longer power reserve, comes in different sizes, and equally rich in heritage. Very nice video👍 It's a shame that seiko don't regulate the movement in mm300! The movement is very good and the watch is not cheap, it's a lot of money for the most people so why not regulate it!? Really lowers the rating for me...
@jimmyv.4954 жыл бұрын
Have you ever opened these up? I think on the Seiko low end movements (7s, 4r, 6r) you can not lock down the position on the regulating bridge when performing a regulation. When you move the + - arm it uses friction to stay in place. So if you drop, bump, or move around a lot, that position on the regulating bridge will move over time, which causes the accuracy fluctuation. I think you can lock down the regulating bridge on the higher end movements.
@EscapementWatch4 жыл бұрын
yes i have a video showing myself regulating. the 8L is a different mechanism a screw that wont move when bumped.

You know what’s funny is that the positional variance seems way worse in 6R movements than it is in a $30 NH35. I’ve had real issues with these 6R movements and I just can’t understand how they can be so bad especially for the money. What’s worse is that a new movement costs just as much as a Swiss ETA 2824 or a Sellita SW200, assuming you can find one for sale. Or you send it to Seiko to have it “serviced”, (let’s be real here, they’re just going to sh** can it and put a new one in anyway) and get raked over the coals on cost. I just can’t do it, I won’t buy anything with a 6R movement in it ever again. The performance in the couple examples I’ve seen is astonishingly bad. especially when you can buy a really nice watch with a Swiss movement for the same price. When those movements give out you can easily source a new one and swap it in, without being held hostage by the manufacturer for repairs.

While the new watch is superior to its predecessor with its lumed bezel and ceramic crystal, I can't forgive the PS 'X' logo. You'd never get a tacky logo like that on a Omega/Rolex - cheapens these great Seikos.

No I was discussing the movement. Throw away the movement. Not the watch. buy a 4R35 for $30 bucks put the dial and hands on it and its as an affordable way for easy service. Especially if you do the hand pressing yourself. Service on a 6R35 is roughly $150-250 in my area from local watchmakers. So for me personally i would give up the extra 30hrs of power reserve and save on servicing.

Gotcha. I was a little confused. I know the MM300 is nicer than the MM200, but it’s definitely not a throw away watch. I have the SPB103, SBDC113 and SPB187 that are getting all of the wrist time right now(my Turtles are feeling a bit lonely). The SLA023 is next.

If you are that strict with your timing - get a quartz. 100% right lol! Thank you for the detailed comparison of these two watches.

I prefer the MM200. Slimmer and better looking. I don't like the new handset. I prefer the older one like on the SBDC063, with the arrow hour hand

I know it's been mentioned before but I don't get why the end links on both watches look like they belong to another model.

I have the 300mm and several 200mm reduced Seiko ,is no more than a budget watch even in the high end pieces! How can I say that QC at all levels if you can’t align the bezel and chapter ring I’m sorry you’re just a cheap manufacturer . I own a bunch of them I like them , I wear them but Seiko will never be premium til they fix the QC even at the less than 500.00 level. Even a 200 Chinese. Knock off can align the bezel and chapter ring . No excuses!

The SLA021 is 3100$ USD retail and not 2800$ and i doubt seiko makes 60 thousand watches in 5 hours unless you talking about 8 hrs work day and no weekends because if thats the case they making 105 million watches a year and thats impossible.

The stat is from watchfinderUK a trust worthy source. it maybe incorrect but it could also be seiko only produces for 2 days a week. who knows. But the speed of production is the key in the stat.

There is no point in comparing a 6R35-powered anything to an 8L35 MM.

Watches have to water proof till 15 kilometres deep pressure, and these marine watches have to be at least 500 meters deep proof

The 300, while beautiful, was severely lacking in build quality for a $3K watch.
@EscapementWatch4 жыл бұрын
build quality was lacking? how? hand polish was messed up? hands misaligned? applied indices not straight? chapter ring off? please elaborate.

Severely lacking? Wow I own many $4k - $8k swiss divers and my SLA019 fits right in EASILY except the bracelet/clasp. What was wrong with yours?
