One of the reasons I enjoyed Moribito so much is because of the music. The music is relatively simple, but it manages to create such an amazing atmosphere that fits this show so perfectly! This song in particular has me completely enthralled

It is one of the more complex animes. Throughout its entirety, it constantly present a complex and difficult world. It constantly gave me a mix of joy and sadness at the same time. When the queen asked Balsa to escape with Chagum from the palace and from the Emperor assassination attempt, it was both joyful and sad. I was happy that Chagum was being saved, but it was sad to know the Emperor (his father) has to resort to assassinate his own son because the Emperor cannot even openly admit there is a problem. The Emperor has to have his son die in an accident. When Jiguro gave up everything he has (honor, wealth and safety) to escape with Balsa, it was both joyful and sad. I was happy for Balsa's safety, but it was sad to see her father was killed and Jiguro had to give up everything -- literally everything.... his honor, his lifestyle, his family, his friends....etc. When Jiguro finally killed the last spearmen to secure Balsa's safety, it was both joyful and sad. I was happy to know finally Balsa and Jiguro has finally killed the last pursuiters, but it was sad to see all the innocent spearmen were killed in foreign land -- with no fault of their own. When Chagum was finally welcomed by the Emperor, but told that he should forever not talk about Balsa because of political sensitivity, it was both joyful and sad. I was of course happy that the prince, water spirit and the kingdom were saved, but I was also sad to know that everything will not be spoken or remembered because of the shames.

I felt the same.. thinking about it, perhaps it was because that was a climax moment, where we didn't know if it would actually work out in the end, and the very moment we notice it did, we also noticed it was the end, and the anime pretty much immediately ended with this crafty song. It's a sudden and strong change of emotions..

You started with quite a powerful show. Similar good shows and movies I would suggest are the brilliant Sword of the Stranger (Stranger: Mukou Hadan), the latest Dororo (similar theme of a father chasing down his son, though otherwise quite different), the latest Blade of the Immortal (with the genders of protector & protected reversed) and maybe Claymore, which is quite darker but has badass females as well, and the female lead often protects a boy. I can't quite recall a show or movie with the same _feeling_ as Seirei no Moribito though. Maybe Mushishi is rather close, though plot wise I found it problematic and ditched it after a few episodes. Maybe I have not yet watched as much anime as I'd like :)

Asrashas I agree with you there, on the other hand, it is always better not to read comments under things related to the anime you haven´t seen to the very end. He started his comment with words "Just finished this anime" so it could be kind of predicted that he is going to say something about his feeling considering the end. But I get that spoilers like that are really mood killers. Yet I think not reading the comments at all before finishing the anime is still the best strategy to avoid it.

Quest for Truth well it's not because people dislike this music that they don't like anything but pop or metal or whatever... And all the people that I know who like metal (I mean good metal) can appreciate classical music too. That song is a kid's song sung by kids, not everybody likes that... But it's true that if you watched the anime and didn't appreciate the meaning of this song, you could have not understood the essence of the show

This should be up there with Death Note. Barely even mentioned in the anime community, even though it achieves so much genuine connection with the viewer, which I doubt a handful of other anime in the past have achieved. It goes far beyond entertainment, and mere art for art's sake. It definitely imparts a sort of wisdom, and a simple way people looked at the world in the past. Also, Jiguro is just too damn awesome!

+Terance Booth You mean "medical medicine" aka "effective medicine" aka "medicine" Crushing up roots and making tea was great for thousands of years, and it lead to Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. We're all literally nothing but chemicals, as are leaves and roots. Some chemicals are more effective than others at creating a certain outcome (such as a cure for a disease). If a plant leaf was the most effective way of curing certain diseases, the corresponding drug would have no market (why pay for a drug when the plant does the job better?). Indeed sometimes the best remedy is a tea, but that's only because a better solution hasn't been found yet. It's also ridiculous to say that herbs and plants can't be addictive or have adverse effects: tobacco, marijuana, poppy, just off the top of my head. Drugs have their share of problems too. This is why research is done everyday to improve them. Take your naturalistic crap elsewhere, and have fun dying decades before everyone else--you know, the average lifespan 75 ago before medicine. Notice that the characters frequently need magic to aid their ailing health, as well as to expand their lifetime. How is taking a pill that cures the black plague not magic? Something tells me Jiro would have survived his illness if it were they had access to more than plants.

I know!!! I had such a hard time letting go of it, I just went and rewatched it immediately. If I find an anime that competes with Moribito and Juuni Kokuki, I'll let you know, then. Still searching. A friend recommended Akatsuki no Yona. Cute, but nothing near those two. It's really sad to me. And it has nothing to do with anything, but... can I just say Tanda is perfect? Not the normal obviously-hot guy anime usually love, just a *really* fantastic person. The first one that made me think "I'd marry you, you're a keeper." Balsa might be my first ever cosplay, only I'm not the cosplay type.
@DanaBanana949 жыл бұрын
I'll rewatch it in a few weeks I guess, so that I don't "overuse" it, which could make it less gripping for me. Like if you eat way too much chocolate at once.. then you start to dislike it. Hm.. I guess that Shin Sekai Yori ("From the new world") is a very nice anime with a beautiful artwork.. but the style itself is a bit different. I've watched 14 episodes or so till now and I like the story very much. Maybe you could try it out too? And, of course, thank you very much if you want to take on the effort to search for an anime and inform me. Doing the same is the least I can do. Oh yeah.. Tanda is indeed perfect. He is reserved, calm, intelligent and always friendly.. and I do my best to be a guy with the same characteristics as him. Most of the men I see every day disgust me.. and some of these "normal obviously-hot guy" belong to them. The world would be a much better place if every person would adopt these characteristics, hm? ^^ I'm not a cosplay fan (maybe just too shy to wear costumes in public).. but I like clothes like Chagum's or Tanda's. It would be cool to wear them all day. But here in Germany, people would look at me like I'm a strange idiot :/ Oh.. and sorry for my poor english.
@BoAKwon1239 жыл бұрын
I'll try Shin Sekai Yori. :) It sounds interesting. Well, trying to be better is always good. With or without Tanda as a rolemodel. It's not like in my country we're used to cosplay. But we have anime conventions, so my friends have opportunities. I'm not a native English speaker either. Your English is fine in my opinion. ^^

This series had such great music. Well, it was great in general, but I fell in love with this song. Just glad I could find it SOMEWHERE. When I have the money, I'm definitely getting the soundtrack. ^^

I love this Anime and it's OST. This song in particular, for being about planting rice for some reason it creates quite the emotional response. Thanks for the post.

this anime was drawn beautifully each episode looked like a movie. God i wish it lasted longer why do all the short animes have to be so god damn amazing. I'm watching this other anime called Kemono no Souja Erin the same person who written Seirei no Moribito. Check it out I'm on the fourth episode and i like it I've read the reviews of it and I can't wait to see this story all the way through.

One thing I loved about this anime was that they'd tell you stuff, or show you stuff, and you wouldn't think much of it. Then they'd later explain it and you wouldn't even remember seeing it prior. Like the scene in the first couple of episodes where Balsa is laying in the mud and Jiguro and the other king's spear are fighting, you don't even know what it's about until later, but by then you dont even remember that scene. It's really interesting! This anime is great, love love love it!

I searched in a pile of thousands upon thousands of mediocrities until I found this gem. Seirei no Moribito was exactly what I've been looking for. A mature, fantasy story told in a fully realized world filled with ancient mythology. And the soundtrack... oh the SOUNDTRACK! If only more studios would take the risk and invest in high budget projects that trade fan-service for class...
