Police in London now is hunting for electric scooter riders on public roads. Process of confiscation electric scooter by the police in London.
No more electric scooter.
I need to pay £150+ to get it back... Getting fine and 6 points on a driving licence!
It is not worth it!
Apologies for a camera orientation, it was filmed in a stressful environment and uploaded straight away with no editing.

legal ebikes are electric assisted in combination with pedal power only, and cannot be driven by the motor alone . Anything powered only by motor alone is required to have tax mot and insurance where applicable as a vehicle in its own right when using public highways. I imagine at some point all escooters will become legal as we become more concious of the environment. When that happens I suspect there will be a standard to comply to in place to meet as with any other vehicle. Exception currently is disabled electric buggys limited to 4mph.

That scooter goes about 15mph. As soon as you saw the police just literally slow it down a bit so it looks like you were going about 10mph, turn off the motor and start pushing it at that speed. They can't prove you were using the motor. It is illegal to use the motor but it is not illegal to push it down the street/road. I encourage doing this because I don't think it is unsafe to ride a scooter of this speed and these are safe. Obviously if you are an idiot going 20+ mph then firstly the police aren't going to believe you're pushing it at that speed and second of all you deserve to get 6 points on your license.

@@1974RLuke It's clearly contradicting any free market law. "Favouritism" or "brand discrimantion" - whatever they want to call it, allowing only certain brands and blocking others - even if having identical features - is far from a democratic system and free market. They should at least admit that they want to help TFL for a year (which I understood "approved" these scooter hiring companies - so they might have their share). TFL will indeed lose a lot of bus tickets etc (on top of covid, now they lose clients who have scooters) - but legally, they are literally breaking all free market UK laws, they can't make legal vehicles - illegal, under the pretext of "trial". They can give fat fines for breaking speed, for using scooters on pedestrian areas, etc, fair enough - but not for choosing a certain brand instead of another. I'm pretty sure the law will change - sooner than later. :)

I really dislike police when they assume you will break a law in the future based upon circumstance, law isn't based on assumption, him saying you can't pick it up on foot is just wrong. Yes enforce the fact it can't be ridden on public roads but don't say he can't collect it on foot. He may not even own a car. The guidance should be don't ride it on public land. Not that you can't collect it on foot. Two completely different points. Also getting 6 points for no insurance when you physically can't insure E scooters is also a massive home goal by the CPS. This is why people end up hating the police. You don't see little old ladies getting there scooters tagged and removed at the side of the road. With a 6 point fixed penalty and fine inbound. Also, If this thing had pedals it would apparently be fine. Which is just bonkers. Members of the public being treated this way is a complete failure in the system. You are alienating the people you're meant to protect. Especially when if you hire an E scooter in the exact same location it's completely legal to ride on the exact same road. Lastly, take a look at Mike Hart's video of the Met Police officer arriving to work on his privately owned E scooter and decide then how fair the police are. It saddens me what this country has become, an authoritarian state in which members of the public are having electric scooters taken away from them because they are privately owed, when if it was a government funded one, then that's completely fine. Outrageous.

this is so shameful an environmentally friendly alternative to transport, in more than one way.. People cycle faster than those things move, I know I can & do In Australia these are illegal too & its a joke. Only within the CBD bounds & the rented ones are allowed. Makes sense, right? Those "legal" ones are left around in the CBD with no helmets usually & for drunk people out partying with friends to easily access at any point If people owned their own scooters, I highly doubt they're going to go around riding them drunk & if some did it would be a few, the same type of morons who would drive drunk If these were legal & fully suported as a means of transport, the congestion on the road would reduce significantly & that in turn would also reduce environmental damage by large amounts both in the air & on the ground from the wear and tear from vehicle parts/tyres etc. You'd also find more car parks in places that would otherwise be full It's shameful this guy wasn't being combative in any way & clearly didn't know it was illegal, but they still treat him like a criminal They are the real criminals & that is nothing but pure theft

The country is so poor that it take money from the nascent popularity of e-scooter riders. The UK doesn't prohibit weed, but e-scooters. It may also be due to the stupid and dangerous behaviors of some riders, for example, they create safety hazards or run amok on the street. First of all, we riders try not to make people feel offended. I believe that UK will not ban electric scooters for nothing. Peace and love

Dmitry, they will start trials from 7 June - allowing people to hire scooters in London, which is ridiculous. Isn't there any sort of "brand discrimination" law? Because suppose on 7th of June, you ride your own e-scooter, legally, helmet etc, within speed limits - just behing a hired ("legal") scooter. On what basis are you doing an "illegal" act - apart from just using a different brand of scooter? Somebody has to do smth about it. I'm looking forward for a bunch of posh rich Chelsea lawyers to jump on this and put a stop forever.
@DmitriyUK

Their point is it must be kind of tracked and insured. But you can not insure your own (even if you managed to insure it you still out of tax, MOT and #plate as this is a motor vehicle...).
@gt0872
@gt0872 3 жыл бұрын
@@DmitriyUK tracked/gps is easy, can be done - but will the hired ones have insurance for "all riders" really? MOT, plate, like motor vehicles, really? None of the hired scooters have that (plate) - in areas that do trials (30 in the UK), as far as I know. Again, case scenario, deeper. What if you buy the exact same model (probably made in China, or even if not) with hired ones? Posh daddy bought expensive scooter for his teenager son/daughter (driving license, all ok - identical tech specs with hired scooters) Teenager rides with two friends, both with hired "legal" scooters. One in front, one behind him/her. On what basis is our teenager in the middle "illegal" - just because using not "hired" brand? For real, I don't see how they can stand in court - with a bunch of good lawyers. This law will change sooner than later. My 2 cents :)

And when they do, you will have another bunch of "no win no fee" lawyers to help you against old laws that confiscated your scooter illegaly :) All peple should take your example and film these "seizings". Best luck!

I live in a area that has many people who dont have no license no safe e scooter, yet they ride on the path and road same for bicycle riders, but my point is they have never caused any issues, from what I understand, also there is many cops around here, they dony care if anyone rides them on paths or and roads. The time cops spend on fining, telling off, adding points to licenses, for people riding these types of transport, just as they ride on paths or and roads, but safely, the time could be spend dealing with actual crime. I've been stopped once during there first crackdown, 6 points & £400 fine, didn't take my wheel though, 2 years later I'm still riding, if I see cops parked up I take a detour, don't even get off & push it along the pavement past them because some people have had there scooter's taken by the police for just doing that, don't get in earshot of the them because if they can verbally ask you to stop & you don't, that gives them the right to give chase if they can, learn your backstreet routes & shortcuts, that'll keep you out of view of the police.
