Very strange for me to watch this, in colour too. I'd have been no more than a couple of hundred yards away, as a schoolboy at Thames Rd Junior, Jim Boucher was the HM, Mrs Balmer my form teacher. Mum ran a guest house on Coop St.

I've just been to see the lights this year. Everything has been scrapped and replaced with thin strings of dismal LED lighting. They are a dull, boring, pitiful, shadow of what they were even a few years ago.

I was thinking of going to see them but after reading this it's probably better to go to Matlock bath and see their wonderful lights on the river.

@@Ian-gw2vxI was just watching this, and thinking they were more magical, when I was a child.... Though these were from before I was born. I've seen them, this year, and I just assumed it was an age thing, but, no, these were much better, which is sad, as technology has come on leaps and bounds, so you'd expect them to be even better.... Sadly, not the case. I do think it's good that they've extended them to New Year though. Kx

Couldn't agree more. I took my kids last night and I was so disappointed. At least the kids enjoyed themselves though...

@@Zippy8027 I wish the rose tinted glasses that kids wear were available on prescription!! 🤭Kx

Very sad really but I imagine there’s no way they could afford to put on the illuminations to the scale they used to.

Globes much superior to the LED of today but that’s economics and the smaller foot print Loved the huge tableux on the Bispham cliffs
