Hey everyone! I want to check the feasibility and modifications needed to make the JAT 501 amplifier run in class A mode. This will be in an upcoming video.

Have you looked at the 2N6488 and 2N6491 transistor pair ? Cost below $1, 80Volts, 15A, 75W. They are only 5Mhz, but that's still 2.5 times the 3055. It should normally be enough for audio. When building a cheap and easy amp, you may not want to use too fast a transistor. They do tend to become harder to keep stable under all conditions, if they are too fast. So 40,50,60 MHz might not be a good idea, if everybody should be able to build one and make it work. But that's only my humble opinion. Thank you for the great videos.

@@RandomUser6947 I'll buy a set of those to try as well. Pretty wild gain vs temp. I hope they are thermally stable.

I think you could probably use the darlingtons if you put a low pass filter in the driver stage. Probably the slowness caused shoot-through at higher frequencies.
@iblesbosuok5 жыл бұрын
Why don't you use power mosfet? IRF530 IRF9530 would work well. Btw, happy birthday Snickers. Cheers from Indonesia

HI, try TIP41C, 42C for the output with c2383/a1013 in the driver place. will work fine and are cheap also

Nice video! Love your channel! Did you ever consider using the TIP Darlington Complementary Silicon Power Transistors series? I have seen some older amplifiers using either the TIP120 series or the TIP140 series. Granted that they are not listed for hi-fi audio application, but since you consider some switching transistors, I would really like to hear your opinion on them. Keep the good work. Looking forward to the JAT501 finished board!

Is there any reason why you're staying with a Darlington configuration now that you're moving to discrete transistors rather than making each half a Sziklai pair?
@JohnAudioTech3 жыл бұрын
Each config has its advantages and disadvantages. CFP is more linear but at a cost, such as stability. In the EZ amp, I wanted to use the monolithic darlingtons to keep the part count down but, alas, they didn't work out.
@1pcfred5 жыл бұрын
Everybody is a critic. You need to lighten up some. Those transistors just suffer from a little bipolar disorder.

Well I found some nice 2SA1943 and 2CS5200 for only $2.00 each on Amazon.ca and I hope I can find a nice project and build a good amplifier with them.
@cocosloan37485 жыл бұрын
You ca find the even cheaper or even at 8$ a piece"originals" but both cases might be fake.Only way to be sure they original is passing 3A current trough them.Fake ones will die at 1 A even! But eve witth fake ones you can make that amp to pull some 20-40W wich is enough in many cases!
@1959Berre5 жыл бұрын
Sounds fishy, probably fakes.

I don't know why you're trying to build cheap,and your harping on about cheap,cheap,cheap , when you can buy a cheap amplifier from China,build a great quality amplifier to make it worth your time and experience,I think that's what people want.$3 transistor big deal,geez how many of them do you need,common man.
