I signed for Naval Aircrew. And knew I had to get to running if I was going to prepare myself before that journey began. I was looking for someone to get me motivated more in myself, and help me prepare my mental state in the correct way. This video is all I needed. I’m now running everyday, and feel more confident it will take me longer to brake then it would have otherwise. Good advise.

I have found over the years of running that thick cushion shoes mess up my knees. Something about the thick cushion messes with my gait enough that I start having knee issues.

Just picked up a pair of Hoka running shoes based on Chad and chilly’s shoe review. I have an 18” rod in my leg and many shoes cause that to hurt during running, walking etc. In just a week they have been life changing! Super comfortable but that thick sole has made all the difference. It’s been the first time in years that when I get out of bed in the morning that my leg isn’t dragging until it gets warmed up. As always thank you for your content and congratulations on the Mid State Mile win. Bring on Goggins and Haines!!!

Good info - thanks a ton. I love my Altra Lone Peaks, but 1) I don’t run (different category entirely) but 2) I do backpack long distances (>100 miles at a stretch). Switching to Altras has been a game-changer for me, and durability has been acceptable (at least 600 miles per pair - less impact than running, but more total weight). The wide toe box has eliminated a ton of problems, and I think the lower stack height helps with foot placement and trail feel. I feel like the choice of shoes is highly individual, and the process of finding shoes is personal, but videos like these help to shortcut the process. So thanks for that.

THANK YOU! As a novice never done 100miles continuous. I was running 5finger vibrams which are nice for an occasional 3 miles runs twice per week. When i stepped up my training i developed hotspots and foot pain. So i stepped it up to a brooks running shoe 🤞 and SaltyBritches ointment to treat hotspots then then added xoskin socks now. looks like can get 100 miles per week. Durability does matter because if your training 100 miles per week and doing a 100 mile race per month your churning out 600 per month. So you also need to figure a cost of a pair per gate fee. It can get expensive. So i really appreciate you putting this content out here because im sure this will save me some trouble. !!

I honestly only rock Hoka's or Salomon, they make some of the best road and trail shoes. Currently running with Speed Goat 5's for trails and a mix of Clifton 7's or Arahi 5's for roads. Really hoping to one day work my way up to a marathon distance for my long runs. I've never been someone who enjoyed fast running, it's always been distance for me. Throw on a vest, grab some gels/snacks/water bladder, put my phone with a podcast in the back with no headphones, and just head out for the day.

I hurt my left achilles wearing Altras on a 25K trail run. Of course I wore them for many miles before that happened so it may have happened in any shoe. Since then I’ve added an aftermarket insole to give it a tiny heel drop and stiffen the thinner foot bed some. I’ve also started running in the Hoka Speedgoat. Definately more cushion.
@MartyMoose1611
@MartyMoose1611 Жыл бұрын
I run in a canvas Crock. It has super cushion and is light as a feather. It’s the closest thing to running bare footed. I have tan in regular Crocks for 5 miles; but you must have the strap on the heel. I never go more than 5 miles. The bottoms do wear quickly on the road. I’m going to try the sandal thing.

I'm partially disabled with back, knee (surgery, Naval medicine) and shoulder issues and have had to stop running due to extreme back pain. Chad, God bless. Have you tried luna sandals retro mono Gordo or retro Oso? Great running sandal. I’ve cloaked at least a 1000km and used them on long runs and in an Ironman. Am I cloakin 4min km pace like when in the carbon x? No. But I’m enjoying the running process way more. No injuries (you gotta adapt slow and give time for the tendons and muscles time to read out the process). And its pure as it gets. Curious how they would hold up with someone who’s clock in higher paces

1:35 answered my question, but I think that is awesome that you are associated with people beyond just TEAM "guys" unlike what you see with most of the other spec op guys with channels or the like. that has been my anecdotal observation at least. I have been a runner since I was a wrestler in junior high. That led me to track and cross country since a lot of wrestlers also run to keep in shape during the off season. I then spent ten years in the Army, and while I am not in horrible shape, I run maybe three miles every other day. I am really giving this ultra marathon thing a thought though, and trying to see if my wife and daughter want to give it a go to. My daughter is a competitve swimmer and hates running though, LOL.

Altra shoes have a wide toe box and generally work well for people with wider feet. If you are interested in Hoka shoes, they have many that come in standard and wide widths. The best advice would be to go to a local running store near you and get fitted. That way you can try on as many pairs as you like.
