Great info as always. I'm in the final stages of HF station setup - Ferrites for everything!! Coax, power supply lines, AC lines.....

I have a choke outside the shack at about 40ft from the antenna feedpointe on the 40-10 EFHW; 5 loops with a snap-on type 31 ferrite bead, .50" ID.

Worked Dominican Republic on 6 meters e-skip double hop yesterday! 2,377 miles! Conditions are similar today but shifted west so maybe CA will get in on some 6m prop! And a reminder, ARRL June VHF contest next weekend! Good chance to see what goes on on 6m and up weak signal(SSB, CW, FT8...) and hand out some points to your locals! Don't need fancy antennas to start but remember, VHF+ weak signal antennas are horizontal polarization, loss to a vertical is very high!

Have you actually gotten neighbors to let you put toroids on their stuff?

I find it works out the best if I don’t tell them. 🤣🤷🏼♀️

I thought i would share this if you didn't know. The LED lights put out a lot of RFI made in China now. I bought some shop lights and found this out. It was so bad it stopped tv antenna signal on shop tv. I was wondering if i would need to put a Toroid on the light cord to stop it or a filter

31 material is great, but the differences in types of common mode chokes shows up with measurements done by some of the other channels. That type is barely giving you 15db. I've seen as much as 31 db with other types including wire wound types. A few of the channels show measurement set ups , some better than others , but all who are measuring the attenuation have my "likes". That said, the s unit method will give you a real time look. The best one I saw was a channel with the words VLF in the name. He got amazing results. By the way, the type 2 material, red, is commonly used for tuners and perhaps un uns ? It is considered to be one of the best for those and used by the atu100 and and the mfj tuners and many more. Interesting how that works?

Are you referring to VLF Radio? If so a quick search of his videos didn't produce an appropriate title to suggest he was evaluating ferrites, chokes or toroids. Would appreciate a specific reference if you have one (or more). Thanks! 73, John - KK7JBZ

No mention of type 2 material, Palomar sells that in a Balun kit.

what was the video called for identifying an unknown ferrite core?

Great video. I live in the flat and I use endfed halfwave 20m long. I use toroids on both ends of the coax feed point and transiver. I use 3 on each end materials 52, 43 and 31. Around 10 turns on each. Amazing suppression since I fitted them. Not 100% but very very good

My inverted V just will not 't fit in the Back of my ute. Will my 40 Kwatt and the Endfire Array be ok instead ?

I know this is an old video, but I only have RFI on transmit. Difficult to find the source

Just want to add IF you a building a portable Magnetic Transmit Loop instead of using a matching coil, use a White Amidon Brand Iron Core Toroid with 2 turns through the middle of the coil. You slip the loop over the coax of the loop. You will then have a great low SWR on 40-10 meters. No it won’t work for 6 meters. You need a yellow core for 6 meters. Toroids are fun. Kind of off topic for this video but if you are an experimenter just wanted to pass along my 2 cents

Hey Josh! Is it possible to have too many turns when wrapping a toroid for a common mode choke?

I have a noise in only one of my surround speakers of 7 installed, I put ferrite beads on every single power cord and speaker cable and no improvement, thankfully you hear the noise only when the receiver is to the maximum volume, I also separate power cords away from the speakers cables …I noticed that only happens when my Apple TV is on ☹️

Turning all of the home power off is a great 0/1 way of answering is it in the house but it's brutal on the xyl and the harmonic who constantly rely on WiFi Internet access.

Josh How can you identify a toroid if you didn't purchase it and know what you purchased. Can you look at it and know what it is? kb2amh

Like through some kind of testing done when it’s configured as a choke.

Just finished a vid series by TRX Lab yt channel that was exceptional deep dive on torroid choke building. He showed with analyzer how certain mixes & winding patterns do & don't work well.
