Ahh best knife, hi Mickey, good seeing you again Amigo, so where do I start, I think I have been blest with the knifes I have in that I have never had to pay for any work knife and have, 50 years in the Merchant Navy and all supplied free of charge, being a Bosun for a long part of that 50 years part of my job was to order all the deck stores so every new ship = new knife, every thing from Green river, mora, (many variations) , Normark locking folder, Opinel, folding knifes with locking spikes, Victorinox sentinels and many others , I even ordered 12 mora sparks for one ship and the order was granted, why they would think you would want to start a fire on a ship I don't know but I have one, since retirement I have bought EDCs (3) because I can't walk out the door with any of the above, they still get used and I have great memory's of each one and where I was in the World at that time, great video Mickey, always enjoy, all the best to you and yours.

Hello Mickey. I'm in America where, (with the exception of places like New York City, Chicago, ...) you can own & carry your pleasure. I'm still trying to find the closest thing to a multi purpose field knife (bushcraft, survival, defense...). The British MOD comes close, but I'd have to get the point modified to more of a clip point. The Gurka Kukri with an 8" blade would also be a good choìce, but in a good stainless or milspec powder coat /ceracoat finish. But I'm still trying to find a reputable, affordable manufacturer for one of those. For EDC I'm well pleased with my folding Cold Steel blades. I definitely agree on the Full, Solid Tang for any fixed blade field knife. Still sending prayers. Cheers mate !

Opinel are very popular with bushcrafters but many times the coil lock has sticked/ locked for me even looked after and I prefer a normark or Swiss knife. Or better still a one handed opener with a bit of a guard. Do like the gollock and mod knife, the latter was my first ever knife
@hampshireoutdoorsandsurviv9340Ай бұрын
i very rarely use the lock on the opinel it is a bit of a pain if your hands are wet but the blade is a fantastic slicer cheers for the comment and all the best mate

Great vid mick , just what we want. I feel the cost of some knives though, are a reflection on their quality. For example, the good old British Army ‘knife Utility’ original, is about 5 times expensive than the cheaper Kombat UK version, which you immediately feel just by picking it up. But to pay a fortune for a knife when just starting, dosnt make sense. A gear example would be the Ray Mears Bushcraft knife at over £500.00, just because his name is stamped onto the blade. I can get a very similar knife made, using exactly the same materials and shape, for around £90.00. Still expensive, I know, but this is a handmade item. Also, what is your views on forge welded Damascus steel blades, as you never covered that type of metal. Looking forwards to the sharpening and stropping vids. Cheers Mick, all the best 👍🏾🇬🇧🍂🍁

cheers mate so forge welded Damascus it depends on A,the types of metals being welded and B, the skills of the smith very few examples of true Damascus exist as the method has been lost to time what we see today is a layering and blending of steels that will give a beautiful pattern and have the potential to be fantastic tools but again as i say depends on the skills of the smith iv only ever made a few items making my own Damascus and the as wedding gifts for some dear friends its a real challenge i wont do it again and i usally look for one steel knives myself ,cheers mick n caz
