Get it French Horn!!!! We just got this piece in concert band and I get to perform the horn solo in Defying Gravity for my senior concert! I'm so excited!

I also played Wicked in my school concert 3 weeks ago, also french horn. I got to play the solo, although I wasn't actually 1st horn 😋

+Julius Sessler That's so cool to hear!! How did it go? I'm assuming it was for high school? But I could be wrong. Year are you?

+Joy I go to school in the UK. I am in year 11 here. I will start ny IB this September... The concert went well! 😊 There was no major errors and I personally had a lot of fun!

That's great! Glad to hear it. Unfortunately for my band, my director decided that we wouldn't be ready to perform it for our concert. We no longer are playing it :(

This director managed a solid and well balanced tempo throughout the piece. The brass sections in this concert band are very good. The director handled the dynamics of the brass section very well. The attacks and rhythms are clean, by comparison with many of the other Wicked recordings on KZbin. Those who are complaining about the loud brass should remember that this is a brass piece supplemented with a few token flute and clarinet parts. If you were to remove the clarinets and flutes you'd still have a great piece of music.

I love this! The bass in their band is so good! We haven't had a good bass section in band since my freshman year...my boyfriend was the only tuba you could remotely hear. >.>

This song is so hard to play! Especially on the clarinet (and flute)! Like, how do you even trill a b flat?! It's the hardest song I've ever played! This band does AMAZING with it!!!

Many people may trash this performance, but honestly, its pretty great. Now, coming from a general perspective, yes; the lead trumpet and the low brass have a very spready and "brassy" tone, which is good for some parts of the piece, and not so much at other parts. That aside, the only way to really critique it is from a very very, VERY detailed standpoint. The attacks are not always, but mostly together. Releases are fairly together. Tone is consistant, but not as it needs to be. Rythm and dynamics are almost always accurate. All in all, this was a fantastic performance. Every performance out there can have its individual problems. There really werent as many as people see it to be.

Actually the brass isn't bad. The original cast recording has a fairly strident brass sound in many places. I think it's what Schwartz and his MD wanted.

It'd sound better with about three less dynamics on the first trumpet part.

I'm playing the piccolo part for my school, plus flute but mostly piccolo...it sounds slightly out of tune, and that counter melody at 2:23 should be much louder...I could barely hear it..

Learn to blend trumpet 1 very amateur to play as loud as you are all the time
@5mikeyman511 жыл бұрын
pretty good performance but... holy crap trumpets(and occasionally trombones)!! Take it down a few notches man. You're so loud that at points is just distracting and not so much enjoyable anymore. Play musically and, believe it or not, your part is not always the most important!
@Alechim100011 жыл бұрын
A bit forced. Relax brass and don't put on a marching band performance.
