Shor's bones! A new Lorecast!

You have no idea how much I enjoy watching these discussions. I don't have any friends that are as much as a lore nut as I am. So seeing a bunch of lorebeards sitting around discussing TES lore is one of the best things ever! My day has literally been spent watching Skyblivion dev streams, and now this!

About Existentialism, yeah, it is not nihilism. It's the belief that the meaning of your life is built with your actions, not something you're born with. The story of the magician is a perfect example of Existentialism. Whatever you do is meaningless, but you do it anyway because you enjoy it. It's the Camus's absurd that Wisecrack loves to talk about. It goes contrary to the Aristotelian ontology that dominated western philosophy for so long, where the being is at it's peak of existence when it actualizes it's inherent potency, what it was born to be (it's final cause). That's teleology. Depression is like experiencing nihilism and being overwhelmed by it. You lose your sense of possibility and no matter what you do, no satisfaction is enough for you to regain the interest in building meaning for your life. The void becomes to painful to bear, so the person kills herself. I once read that some people kill themselves when they have an improvement in their moods. At rock bottom, maybe they don't have the strength or the courage to commit suicide, so when they get better, they gain the resolve to do it. Maybe suicide itself becomes a meaning to life, providing some serenity at the end, which enables the act. Do you know that line by Silenus in Greek mythology "it'd be best not to be born and if born, too die as soon as possible", that Schopenhauer later quotes? If one believes life is suffering, than ending life becomes a goal. Some people go nuts and have a mass shooting. Most others just kill themselves. But not doing it devoids life of meaning in the mind of the suicidal. I'm talking about the ones that don't do it in the middle of a desperation crisis, those that are able to rationalize the suicide.

I view Akulakhan as an Inverse Tower. It was meant to spread the mirror-truth of Dagoth Ur: YOU ARE ALL ME, whereas a proper Tower would show one the Truth of I ARE ALL WE.

Speaking of NGE, I've taken to semi-jokingly referring to Numidium as a 'Big Stompy Dwemer Evangelion'. It fits disturbingly well.

Do you think it’s possible that perhaps Nirravahr or a part of him, was reincarnated as Dagoth Ur? Because it seems that Dagoth’s plan seems to share similar elements to his late friend’s mistrust of outsiders and isolationism.

I actually found your playlist two days ago and have started watching them! Really enjoying it! As someone who has only played Skyrim once (replaying it now), and has no real knowledge of TES lore, what is the best way for a 100% fresh person to actually get into and learn the lore? I feel a lot of online discussions are really deep, and I would like to get the basic "foundational" parts of lore.

420Scope4u read over UESP.org, and just ask around on the bethsoft forums. Many will be happy to explain everything you have questions about, if it’s not already answered.

Fuck. There's something I was writing that I wanted to be out before you guys did this. The problem is likely that I took that to mean "before the end of time." Also, Nerevar was totally the Laura Palmer of Red Mt. Wait, Hortator as charming politician (played by Dr. Strange) & Sharmat as what?- professional malcontent? Dysfunctional, unlikable, but dammit I don't like the King either. Whereas the Hortator is more enticing as the prospect of a better King, but might be lying. "What's the difference between this asshole & that asshole."- Yeah, that's a marvelous way to put it. And for the next Cast kzbin.info/www/bejne/opvQdp6NoLloh8U

Interesting "Food For thought" The culture of the "collective whole" referred to in the ES universe is very similar to that of what people believe who eat "magic mushrooms" if you look at the games especially morrowind you can see the magic mushrooms everywhere they look specifily like the ones thats make you trip. Maybe the writer of the lore simply reflected his beliefs in the lore.

i kind of feel like the sharmat is a personification of an ideology, anyone can become the sharmat by embracing that ideology. i guess technically you could have failed sharmat as well.
What if it looks like Elder Scrolls Online visually? After TESO I am afraid of spin-offs, spoiling the original series

You guys managed to turn a discussion about one of the most interesting videogame characters of all time into a mess of boring metaphysics and bullshit. You skipped almost everything that makes dagoth a facinating character in favor of eild speculation and out of game resources that are almost unrelated. You're so deep in your own fan fiction its sad. Dagoth deserves better
