My boyfriend of two years has been lying to me throughout our relationship. He lied to me about female friends being cousins, he lied to me about visiting a "cousin" in England, it turns out she was a friend. He downloaded a dating app but told me he didn't talk to anyone on it and had no intention to. I did see the signs a year into the relationship and I did ignore it, I always gave him the benefit of the doubt. he promised me the world at one point, and I fell for it, moving in together, having kids.. getting married. he used to call me his angel, his soulmate, gorgeous, every possible sweet thing a person in love calls their partner. but two days ago he told me he wasn't in love with me anymore but he wants to make it work so bad, I honestly don't know if ever cheated on me, and yes I'm being naive and in denial. i honestly never get this personal, especially in comment sections on KZbin of all things but like this song hits pretty hard but it honestly changed my perspective on something that happened to me about a year ago i had this friend who, i really was genuinely in love with but he was so abusive to me and i couldn't see it until one of my friends started pointing everything out to me. but even then it took me so long to actually realize that i couldn't stay in a relationship with this friend who: -negatively compared me to others all the time -told me that he "wouldn't care if i died" -constantly belittled me and discouraged me from drawing and wanting to get better at my hobbies so i know that this song has some controversy around it but i just wish that some people could really understand what Selena's trying to convey with this song. and, i guess what I'M trying to say is that: for anyone who is going through a relationship with someone who isolates you from other people, or with someone who constantly insults you and takes advantage of you, or with someone who generally always makes you feel like garbage, i am begging you to get out. i suffered for almost the entirety of my freshman year in high school, without even realizing it for the longest time. and i feel sort of stupid for it, but at the same time it's important to realize that it wasn't my fault. nor is it any victim's fault. i guess i probably typed too much and i know this is very personal, but i hope that someone can at least learn from this song or my comment. stay safe, stay strong; the world is with you!
