Oh my goodness, how could you find out such an unique public transportation? Fabulous! And my concern is about the planning of this yellow bus system. Since in general we suppose the public transit is prioritized among other traffics, so why the yellow bus has to stop at every corner to allow other cars to pass? Little thoughts...Thanks for sharing us!

The buses are very careful and drive slowly, so it does tend to block traffic. The attendant onboard often waives cars behind it to go around the bus. I found the bus through my new friend Arian who lives in Berlin and showed me around!

You ought to keep in mind - this is a life-sized filed experiment in an early stage. There are three of these autonomous bus system in Berlin, each operating with two vehicles. Two (as the one above) are operated on hospital compounds. The third runs through EUREF, a large campus for education an research in energy. All theses routes were chosen because they don't touch public roads, yet they feature all the interferences (delivery vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, double parking...) a bus would encounter in 'real life'. The buses are currently here to 'learn' how to behave with obstacles. The Route at EUREF is slated to be extended to the next train station this autumn, bringing these robot buses onto real life street traffic on public roads for the first time.

I appreciated your knowledges here! Big thanks to @Arian for your profound analysis! I would love to have a ride on this automatic bus if I travel to Berlin. By the way, today I saw a news about a testing automatic virtual-rail bus system in Zhuzhou, China. Check it out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHapZ6SJjaemqtk

I mean these driverless pod busses are still incredibly new. They've seen implementation in smaller places with limited or no car traffic. For instance in the town of Køge south of Copenhagen one of these pod bus services was opened as the first in Denmark where it's running within the interconnected hospital building complex from one end to the other

It's been a long time since I visited the system for the first time - but it took me months to finally ride it. I took home a new story about its operation, and unfortunately, it's a rather sad one. Currently, all buses or 'pods' are attended by operators for security reasons (and in case someone parked their car in the right of way, since the buses cannot - yet - diverge one inch from their learned route). Most of these attendants are former BVG drivers (you can hear the lady say in the background she had been a tram driver for 23 years) that can no longer fulfil their duty for different reasons because they went through hell (or worse) in their daily jobs. Most of them are in therapy or psychiatric treatment. The really sad part is, that there are enough of them for the BVG, or Berlin transit authority, to form a dedicated department just for them. When I rode this Bus, there were two attendants on board. One talked rather openly about his fate. He had been a bus driver and had been assaulted six times during his career. "The last time", he told me "I got into an argument with a car driver. I managed to close the door in time, otherwise, I swear, he would have killed me." His colleague was a former U-Bahn (metro) driver. He was more reserved and did not talk about his fate. But through between-the-line remarks it became obvious, that he had witnessed someone committing suicide by jumping in front of a train he was driving - at least once. They were rather cheerful and in good spirit though, pointing out that " this thing only goes 10 kph max and stops on the spot!" followed by a wink. And - relating to their regular customers "We got a lot of journalists. And transit enthusiasts. And those..." pointing towards a group of young people sitting on the pavement smoking. "We're going right through the psychiatric department. These guys have nothing to do when therapy is over, they come onboard, and they don't stop talking. We take them around, one, two rounds, sometimes three. Then we tell them to get off. They are harmless. But they are more fucked up than we are."

If you're interested, there's a self driving bus system in Trikala, Northern Greece! You can make a video about the self driving bus in Trikala! Also, you can come to Athens and make a video about the Metro! If you come by in the beginnings of 2019 till June 2019, an extension of Line 3 will open. Would be interesting if you made a video also!

I thought the bus was made by Alstom. Nice design & interior, but very small. Beautiful campus! I see where Qinghua University got inspired from for the design of many buildings, he. Regards from Costa Rica. P.S.: Shame on my country for not making deals with Alston, Siemens, Czech Republic, Japan & Chinese train manufacturers manufacturers for Costa Rica to finally have its first tram/monorail/subway line. When the government has no money left, the country has made use of consessions to foreign manufacturers & operators. You have trains for selling, and we need them.

Interesting. Similar to the buses I saw in Tallinn. At least in case of accident they didn't have far to go ☺️

The lengths we will go to keep someone from having a job are becoming truly evil. What's the problem with having a person drive people from one place to another?

Cars put the people who made buggy whips out of work, too. In 1971 a company called Bomar introduced one of the first battery powered digital pocket calculators to consumers, and by 1976 the last U.S. made (Keuffel & Esser Corporation) Slide Rule went out of production. Truly evil.

Slower than a bicycle. :-( Not much of an improvement.
@arianberndt18896 жыл бұрын
Actually even slower than walking :D Speed is currently limited to 15 kph (about 10 mph). But it really goes even slower, creeping at snail's pace around corners and in front of obstacles. Design speed is 45 kph, however, and speed will be ramped up during the two-year test phase.
