Vegetables and herbs are grown as ingredients for my fish recipes. Modifications to the setup of the SIP tubs are implemented here so this is now version 2.0. Thanks again to "Gardening With Leon" for teaching the SIP technique. An Anglers Lifestyle Tutorial.

Watch Leon's episode #26. It's all about fertilizing. You must add 1 tsp. of water soluble fertilizer to EACH GALLON of water added to the base of this container.

I love Leon but I just realized he is using synthetic fertilizers to achieve the growth that he's showing. My organic fertilizer have low NPK values nowhere near the numbers Leon is teaching in his videos. Thanks for watching.

It was a pleasure to meet you and your wife at Sandy Wool Lake the day after Thanksgiving. First time at that lake. Very nice with a lot of wildlife. Wish my daughter would have put her cell phone down long enough enjoy the surroundings.

No cell service at there. That's the beauty of that lake. You can try again. Good to meet you and maybe next time, we can put fish on her hands. Thanks for watching.

When Leon uses container jugs, he minimally puts holes on the top. The key is that you have a reservoir and there's some water contact without creating a "wet feet" condition drowning the roots. The groBucket insert for 5 gallon buckets has perforation on the top allowing roots to reach into the water reservoir same as hydroponic. Kindly view my follow-up video where I implemented air pruning holes on the side of the tub. Thanks for watching.

@@anglerslifestyle4321 seen it thanks..I made 4/ 5 gallon buckets with air pruning like yours.Couldnt decide how many holes and how far down to go so went down about 3 inches. I'll just take a drill to the corugated pipe going in my tubs here and there..thanksp]p

The perforated drain pipe is considerably cheaper than the solid. Last time I bought some at Home Depot it was $44 for 50 ft of solid pipe vs $36 for 50 ft of perforated.

Lettuce can grow in shallow pots or containers. That seems like an awfully big pot and soil for a shallow root system crop

Nice video where did you get the idea to use burlap? I did get what the first soil was that you applied in the bucket first. I guess I should look at the first video. How much were the buckets?

Can water get out of the end of your tube? If so why are you concerned about making holes in the length of it? The only reason, in my mind, you would need holes in the length of the tube would be if you sealed both ends separately or together. Then you would need to provide an egress for the water.
@anglerslifestyle4321

The idea is to create an air pocket between soil and water. Covering the tubes on both ends prevents soil debris from collecting inside the tube I hope that answers your question.

What’s the first layer of material you put right above the burlap?
@anglerslifestyle4321
@anglerslifestyle4321 3 жыл бұрын
Just a mixture of coco-coir, Kellog Potting Mix and Garden Soil. Essentially, any wicking type of medium that will allow the water to absorb and pass through. Thanks for watching.

@@anglerslifestyle4321 thanks! Sorry, I am just trying to understand if the top layer of soil in which you plant your herbs is the same soil you use as wicker .. .. I thought that the herbs are planted in potting or garden soil and the bottom wicking layer was something else ... can I just use potting soil instead of coconut coir? if I have compost , when should I add it? In the bottom or top? Thanks so much!
@anglerslifestyle4321
@anglerslifestyle4321 3 жыл бұрын
@@hasinaabdu3693 Add compost to soil that herb roots can reach. I use Coco coir for germination and for water retention. Over time, it breaks down as part of soil addition drainage. Hope this helps.
